Re: Thor a 4 car man? WHAT?! THE RISE OF THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER!!!

Boy do I ever have a story for you fuckers. Dont worry, Brian, there'll be some cliff notes but to get the full feeling of this story you should just take 8 minutes of your day and do some fuckin work . Anyway, so here she goes!

So where did I leave off.... oh yeah, putting the hood and wheels on. Wheels went on good, but the hood was a bit whiney. I was workign on it and what do you know but it slips and fucking takes a big gouge out of the side of my head. So there I am bleeding all the fuck over, yeah, not a lot of fun. So it quits and I start it and drive it out of the shop... remember this was at about 1:15 or so. I went back into the shop and notice something interesting... an oil puddle. So I go out and check and sure enough shes squirting pretty good. I stop it, run to walmart, get new oil, fill 'er up and check the level, and turn it on again to see exactly where its coming from. Well, I found the culprit to my other motor shitting the bed... there was a big ass hole in the oil return tube! So great, now I get to change that. Out comes the jack and tools and my spare return tube.

So there I am going to work on the return tube. The old one comes off and I am like, "Hmmm, how the hell am I going to get the bolts onto the turbo?" My old extensions wouldnt reach so I go to fleet and get a crime-stoppin 18" extension. I come back and go to work on getting it back on. This is about 2:30. I called my brother to wish him well for the last two weeks of his camp and go back to work. I got the oil pan bolts on and am working on the turbo ones and I was having a hell of a time getting those top bolts on! Lots of dinkin around and it finally got there. I snugged up the first one and was tightening the other one. It just got snug and I was going to just firm it up a bit and *snap*.

So there I am in utter disbelief. WTF did I just do? Sure enough I twisted the head right off the screw. I got my vice grips, pliers, and needle nose and wen to work trying to get that broken off bolt off. Luckily, it broke off flush with the dump tube not the turbo so I could get it off provided decent grip/leverage. My buddy called me at 4:15 and offered to come help. By the time he got there I had the turbo basically off, it was probably about 5:00 that it came off. Sure enough the bolt came out without trouble. The top of the dump line was bolted on right there to oliviate that headache. We started to get it back in and it took for damn ever because of the front water line on the turbo was gettin in the way. We finally got the engine bay back together around 7:00. It took another hour or so to get those bottom oil dump tube bolts on, which is rediculous I know but THEY WOULD NOT GO ON!!! AHHHH!!!

So there we are all buttoned up and ready. Had to go to wally's world again for some coolant. Got back and filled the oil and coolant and started her up. She was running pretty decent but running sorta shitty. We figured it was the 1 year old gas. Took a trip yet again to Walmart and got some 92. That helped a bit, but still mildly choppy. We took it for a good 38 mile rip and had a fuckin blast... not even building one pound of boost. This motor has to last yall, I will not be beating on it. So we picked up some food and it got sorta hot sitting there in drive through... no fans. So we get it out on the highway and it cooled down but then the hot light came on. We pulled over and found no pressure in the system. We filled the overflow bottle and the radiator and figured we should be fine now. Then Mike points towards the turbo, "Whats that cord?" I had forgotten to plug in the o2 sensor housing! Plugged it in and now it does run like a fuckin top. We just found that we gotta keep and eye on the coolant level and I am going to have to hardwire the fans . I wanted to avoid that but I dont know how to fix it and I sure as hell dont want to pay someone to fix it. Anyway, thats the story, but I had to come home right after that. So yeah, I have had a long fucking day but it was completely vindicated in the end .

I love that car guys! It ran soooo nice. Its a bit loud, but it purrs real nice. I am just going to have to get a resonator and hopefully quiet it down a bit. I do have quite the shit in the closet, but its going to stay stock cam'd and stock boost until I can get DSMlink, taking no chances. Anyway, thats the story for the night. Sorry guys, I know I promised but I can hardly stay wake. Plus I should really have some all finished pics to show off . Anyway, later all.

Cliff notes:
-Lots of bad shit happend
-Worked on aforementioned bad shit for a good 7 hours longer than I should have had to
-The Purple People Eater is running good now .

I want you to know that I took the time to read the whole thing... And I had to laugh a good bit when you snapped off the head of the bolt. I know that feeling, I don't know how many I've snapped off in the process of putting mine back together... I'm sure I haven't seen my last one, but I sure hope so...

It feels pretty good gettin blown eh?

Re: Thor a 4 car man? WHAT?! THE RISE OF THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER!!!

GOD DAMMIT! So heres an update. I found out I hooked up the vac hose wrong. Man am I a fucking retard. Oh well, she still runs.

In other news, I FINALLY got some pics of it. However, I left my camera at the shop. I'll post up when I get home in like two hours. I have another problem though, I am now runnign 19 pounds of boost on the stock BCS . Its gay because it pulls so much harder now that I have everything hooked up right but 19 psi on big 16g and stock fuel system = bad day. Its so depressing shifting at 3000 rpm when I get on it though (other wise I get more boost ya see). I am getting 10 psi at like 3200-3300 though, which is right perfect as I think the Evo III 16g sees boost at like 3300. Also, I am vac'ing right at 17 in/hg so I think I am doing ok. After I give my buddy John a ride in it tonight I am going to park it again for the coming week to get the water temp and oil pressure guages in, as well as the battery relocation done. Oh, and get the shift cables adjusted right and get some good tranny fluid in there. Then, its launch time . I think I might go cruise around and try to race a Crustang or a Camaro or something, just to boost my ego . Anyway, pics tonight.

Re: Thor a 4 car man? WHAT?! THE RISE OF THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER!!!

Sounds good man. I think we all know the feeling of breaking something or hooking something up wrong. As long as you fix it and learn from it, it was worthwhile (as long as it didn't cost too much money).

I'm not sure what it is with the e316G, but mine loves 19 psi. If i turn the boost all the way down, it will just creep right on up to 19psi by redline. I had everything ported too. I just set the BC to 20 and thats where it stays till redline. Mine would reach full boost by 3200 rpms, but since i installed the bc 272's it waits till 3500-3600.

Anyway don't hold back on those mustangs, and make sure you find some fool that has his girl in the car, that way when you win, you shame him twice.

Re: Thor a 4 car man? WHAT?! THE RISE OF THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER!!!

Ok, so FINALLY here are some pics! Sorry you 56k guys, this is immenent death for you. Here we go!

Here is the blue car when I got it.

Engine bay pic.

Coming out of the blue car!

Pic of the blue car *almost* entirely stripped. Look at that 4x4!

Going into the purple car.

Yay, its in!

Photoshoot from yesterday.

One of my favorite shots, I love the panoramic setting on my camera. I will get another one eventually using three frames instead of two.

My car and my buddy's soon to be turbo 13b LSD FB.

Your very happy moderator .

Clean ass guage install! Too bad only the boost works as of yet. One thing though guys, I will NEVER trust stock guages in a "performace" car ever again. That stock boost guage is just rediculous as are the oil pressure and temp guages IMO. It drives me NUTS that I dont know some numbers you know what I mean? I might even end up getting a fuel guage and aftermarket speedo and tach. My gas guage is all sorts of ghey, when it got to half a tank it went back towards the F line! Plus I hear the stock tach is horribly inaccurate once you get past like 300 hp.

Well, b'dee b'dee thats all folks! For now anyway.

Heaters and air conditioners are for pussies .

Nah, its not going to be driven in the winter so I dont need a heater and it came with a mangled AC system so I just took it off. I do all my cruising windows down anyway.

You say that now... but ice cold AC is a godsend.. especially when you see people in cars beside you baking I USED to think that AC wasn't too important.. and that I could just drive around with the windows down, but when I got the FD, it changed my life ..plus.. chicks dig the AC!

I second the AC comment..... Never really used it in the gsx, and always used to get swamp ass because of the non perforated leather seats. But now in the evo, the AC is never off unless I'm racing lol.

Man, what a bunch of fuckin Sallies! Honda section is over here boys .

Nah, I really dont need it. I know what I am going to use the car for and how I am going to use it, I've made a plan, and I am sticking to it. Yes, AC is nice but its not worth it to me to have to figure out what was wrong with it in the first place, plus as much work as I have to do on that bitch, its just one more thing to break or get in the way.

Haha man i will say both of my cars have AC, and the only time i've used them was when i first got the car to make sure they work, or when i had some chicken head complainin in my ear that it was too hot. Other than that my AC is 2 windows down at 60 mph.
