Colbalt's actual MPG-What will it get

i drove to philly last weekend. i got 39.4, thats almost all highway. i made it from philly to blairsville, pa and had more than a quater tank left after i got home. andif you dont know these parts of pa, theres alot of hills to climb. driving thru pittsburghs rush hours i get about 33 in the city traffic.

idk how you guys are getting 30mpg i have a Cobalt Lt 2.2L and im only getting 20.3mpg. wats up with that??

let me give yo a couple examples. i drive thru pittsburg every day for work. on the way there its about 6am so im barley hittin the tip of morning rush hour and im doing 70-90mph. i get out at 4 and get to the city by 430. i sit in the traffic moving less than 15 miles an hour stop and go for two hours 5 days a week. im still gettin 33 in that crap. i jsut got back from a 3800 mile trip. not following a semi i got 37-39mpg the whole trip. when i was behind a semi, i got 40-42 mpg. even on one tank i stopped in Ga., i slept for 6 hrs. i left the car running the entire time. i still got 31mpg on that tank. i bought my 2 dr ls 2.2L man. trans cobalt one year and two weeks ago. i currently have 48,906 miles on the car. i use mobil1 only. i have a gm cold air intake. and the thing is, i get that kinda mileage with a 155lb sub, 200lbs of dynomat, a floor jack, and a cordless impact in the car. and of course luggage when i travel.

with all this in mind, i have no dea how you are getting the mpg you are getting. the only thing i can figure is that you are in need of a tune up and/or you need to change yer driving style. i consistantly get 33city and 38 hwy.

I now have 7,300 miles and mpg has improved.

Average 33mpg if I drive responsibly.

Best was 37mpg when I drove 55mph, cruise all the time, no jack rabbit starts.

Rarely get below 31mpg and that is driving 'with traffic'.

My drive consist of 10 miles city, 30 miles hwy each way.

Kyle, you need to analyze your driving style. I couldn't get 20mpg if tried!

I have a 06' SS 2.4L Cpe. I get around 27mpg on local roads with min-moderate traffic going 15 miles to and from school. The mpg is still going up. Havent driven on the highway yet my guess is that it would get around 36 or so depending on how heavy your foot is!

I have a 2.0L Supercharged Cobalt SS. I get on average 24mpg. thats with a light foot, occasional heavy boosting. My buddy has the Ion Redline and we got 19mpg once i think... so i dont know how you manage to get 30mpg on an SS.... unless its the SS1 non-supercharged one.

25mpg is about the maximum you will see in a SS/SC. I get 24mpg driving 45-60 mph most of the way.

I'm with Kyle122390 in saying, I don't know how you guys do it. My fiance's '06 Cobalt LT Sedan 2.2L Eco.Auto has never, and I mean NEVER ever gotten better than 28mpg. Even on Long trips. We were promised from the dealer from day one, 32-35 or even better mpg.......yeah, BS!!! It's pretty bad when we have to take my '96 Monte Carlo LS (3100) on long trips cause it gets near 30mpg and the Cobalt sits in the garage. Have any of you guys that have the K&N filters ever had problems with the MAS getting filter oil on it and causing problems? Are there any other tips you can give me to possibly make this car perform any better at the pump that isn't too costly like a cold air intake? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, and snappy as hell, but I'm just pretty unhappy with the mpg. If she wasn't so upside down on her payments, we would have gotten rid of it already....

I dont drive fast at all. My dad says its fine, but reading this over and over again makes me feel like something is wrong about my car. My oil life is i think 76% i know i need new oil but that shouldnt change the MPG much. There are alot of stop lights by where I live. but seriously it shouldnt be down to 20.6mgp. Thats where im at now. It has 15020 miles on it now. It does seem quicker then other cobalts. Ive beaten a V8 before soo idk maybe the pre-owner out somthing in there. What should I do

I'm getting 28 on my Cobalt SS Supercharged. The computer sez 31 but checking it the old fashioned way, I calculated 28.17mpg=307miles/10.9gal

i have a 1996 impala ss and when i did the boston to baltimore trip i got 25mpg...at 70mph with 2 people and luggage....


my son has shown an interest in this cobolt vehicle because of mpg....


my daughter has 98 monte 3.8 L and she gets 25 mpg ave. in town/hywy combo ..

I hit 28.4 mpg. amazing occurance, as the next one resulted in a 22.1 mpg it had to make up for it I guess. then again I had 5 races on that tank.

sierra, i drove from pittsburg to harrisburg on friday. at no point in that trip was i doing less than 90mph. for more than 80 miles i quite literally had the pedal on the floor, driving it at the governed limit. with my ac on, my 294lb friend riding shotgun, and both our luggage. even with driving like an ass like that i STILL got 28.8 mpg. i have an 07 cobalt lt 2.2l man trans no option coupe. the only things i have done to it are i put a gm cold air intake on it, i use mobil 1, and i run my tires at 36psi. absolutly nothing else. after harrisburg i went to philly and then to dc. it wasnt till jsut outside dc that i even had to get gas. and even with all that traveling i only put in 11.78 gals of gas. i dont know what to tell you guys. maybe that k&n is screwing things up i dont know. hell, i even have a 155lb sub in my trunk and 120lbs of dynomat throughout the car. ive added alot of weight to it and i still do great. maybe you have a "lemon".

SS/SC owners, regap your plugs to .34 and you should see about 5 more MPG, i did.

On the freeway my wife's 06 LS gets routinely 36-37 mpg.

I rented a Cobalt LS last July from Enterprise. With 4 people in the car doing 80% hwy driving (some of it through the cascade mountains) we averaged about 38 mpg over the course of about 10 fill-ups. I was very pleased.
