Re: Full bomex body kit arrives tomorrow morning!!!

So you guys think i should of got it painted before install it? well, there is such thing called "you might drop it" during the installation or "you might hit it against something", the bodykit is really big and is very immobile, its very hard to take it 10 miles to the shop, painted, then bring it back 10 miles without scratching it, theres gonna be some scratch no matter how careful you are, and when that happens, it wont look as good as if you get it painted after installation...the shop paint between the cracks and all so i dont see why you guys who never had a bodykit are even trying to say something if you dont know crap, im not saying all of you, just some of you... not metioning any names here...

Im out of that not having a kit and dealing with all the ins and outs thing.

And to break things down on the simple side. Im gonna go through the tride and true body kit steps...

1: Dry fit. Dont modify, mount or even mess with the kit parts. Take off the stock bumpers and slide the new bumpers into the holes to make sure everything lines up. If it all lines up and looks good see step 2 if not send that sucker back so you can replace or deal with the problem.

2: Install fit. Do your mods such as swapping out stock mounting hardware to the new kit. Slap it in and make sure it all matches up install wise. Sometimes just because it fit in the dry fit doesnt mean it will be totally good on the install fit. Sometimes hardware wont mesh up just right or things will get hung up in the mix and you might have to do some tweaking. Once everything is cool after the install fit see step 3 or keep retooling and tinkering till it all works sweet.

3: For those like cody and can do it, leave the kit on and dont do any heavy driving till paint stage or put her in storage till then. For those that cant and the car is a daily driver take the kit off put the stock components back on and put the kit up in a safe place till paint. Even though as cody stated earlier fiberglass can be made into pretty pretty things it sure as hell cant take a rock being tossed off of a truck tire doing 65. The more you drive it the more dings scratches and cracks you will end up with end that will just drive the cost of repair prep and paint up more then you may have estimated in the begining. A good paint shop can hook you up with enough of the fun various coatings and mixes on the needed agents to stand up to some abuse.

4: YAY!!! Time for paint. Ah, the day has come for paint. For the select few take that sucker outta lock down and drive her on down and get that sucker sprayed. For the majority, either take the body kit into the shop for paint or re-do step #2. Get the stock stuff back off the car...new stuff goes back on and then take her into get sprayed. Like I said before, a good shop will take the kit off the car and spray it so they know their work is 100%. The best thing to do though is to just take in the kit components to get painted so your not without a car for a few days. A good paint job is not a 6 hour gig.

All the above is pretty much basic stuff. Im not saying you cant drive the car with the kit on it unpainted. I am saying that to me it looks like crap and Im trying to help save you money in the long run. I will say one thing though that I did fail to mention earlier. It is good to drive around with it unpaint for a few days to some of your most frequented spots you drive just to make sure you are not going to mess the kit up in the long run as well as learning how to drive your car all over again. 90% of the body kits out there will lower your car if you like it or not. So drive ways, curbs and parking lots that you could swing a left into straight on one day you now have to be carefull of. Remember wide sweeps and angles are your best friend.

Well this is the most I generally try not to type so I really hope this is explination enough....if not Im sure someone got it and can clarify.

Sadly I was forced to sell her minus a front bumper and the rear bumper severely cracked from when a girl ran into the back of me sitting at a stop light. Don't bust his balls for putting it on unpainted, it's his daily driver and sometimes it's hard to get everthing done all at once.

Personally, from past experience, if and when i do anything to my 'lude, I'll save up enough to have the kit bought and installed and painted all at the same time.

i dont think anyones telling him hes wrong for doin what hes doing, but people are giving advise to what they have encountered when they did the same job. if he wants 2 leave it on and put scratches and bumps in it, or get into an accident and have 2 replace the front of the body kit vs removing the stock bumper, let him. if you wanna do it right, you probably shouldnt drive it anywhere...put it in the back seat, and take it 2 a shop when you have the time...

Because most bodykits come with a gelcoat (if they don't, they're probly junk) which can get ruined and makes the painting process longer because the unpainted kit will get ruined and have pebbles stuck in it. And why the hell would you wanna drive around in a multicolored car? It looks cheap and ricer-ish.

Tell that to the about 500 different people in my town. It seems to be a hot trend now for some reason.

Re: Full bomex body kit arrives tomorrow morning!!!

sorry guys... no picture for now cuz i just crashed my car... a dumbass turbo bug ran thru a stop sign and into my driver side, i was lucky that i didnt die...

My door was smash like shit, my bomex side skirt are messed up and cracked, and my front left tire/wheel is bent like crazy... i bet my drive shaft and my axles are bent too...

But there is a good thing from this, the insurance of the bug's owner will pay for EVERYTHING and they gonna estimate the cost of damage... And i recommanded them to let my bodyshop do all the work, remember the guy that did my exhaust and the same guy that paint my bodykit?
They are estimating it to cost about $8000 and my bodyshop guy saids its gonna cost him about $4000-$5000, so now i have $3000-$4000 of pure EXTRA money that i can do watever i want with, so now im gonna get some brand new 18's and tires, a nice spoiler and a pair of lambo door hinges for the $4000 that im going to get and then i might get myself a turbo kit and other stuff too... it all depends on how much the estimate is, but the more the better...
