Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

It has been a while since I last posted an update. Not because I have been lazy, but because of a lot of "paint drying time".

So I put the main body parts in white primer, and let them dry for 48 hours. Next I gave them 2 coats od Tamiya TS-26 pure white. And the I let them dry for a week.

Next I sprayed some orange paint from the spraycan in my airbrush container.

To be continued!

Nice update. The idea of having both painted and decal covered orange/red sections will test your ability to match the colours Good luck. It is very difficult to comment on the "correct" colour as it really depends on who you ask, how your monitor is calibrated, the phase of the moon I agree, the only important thing is to get a match.

I tried picking up this kit on eBay twice in the last month but it got much to pricey for me!

Hello Guy,
Finally an Update.
Couldn't wait to look at it!

NIce paint you've donne.
I hope the decals will match the paint.
Don't you have more "depth" with the paint than with the decals?

Hi

Ermmm, what about the rather obvious seam line then? Do you have a secret trick to remove that after paint?

Best regards

Flemming

Right now the paint is already glossy and the decals are still kinda matt. But that will change after the gloss coats. Besides, there won't be a single area where the paint and decal will be visible right next to each other. The model will be showed with all the parts detached...

The seam between top and bottom body part - where the two parts meet when you assemble them. It is very obvious and not on the real thing.

Sorry about being negative, but the seam (which is NOT there on the real car) is both visible on top of the "tub" (the front part) and down on the tub (side radiators). Also to paint the car orange is an obvious mistake . It shall be TS-36 flourcent rocket red. I would also suggest removing the battery case, which is very visible on the picture.
But besides that is the project and the super detailing amazing. I can not wait to see the project finished.
