My nickname on SCF is parmesan. I don't have any presonal pictures to share so I'm a rather discreet poster.

So the car is believed to be 048. The scans are of very poor quality I'm afraid, on the magazine the blue is kind of purple, maybe that helps identifying it.

Great scans Passocorto,

Looking at the steering wheel pic, brings back clear memories of the first time I sat in an F1, that being XP5.
I was delivering some GTR parts to unit 12, McLarens continuation workshop, where they were building the first three F1 GTR,s,That alone was an awsome sight. The sensation of climbing into the central driving seat and surveying the view, from this unique driving position was immense. On exiting XP5 to allow a technician to resume his work, he promptly placed a boiling kettle into the passenger footwell and closed the door, Very strange I thought (he was testing the air con/Demist system)
Although I was only there for a short time, this memory will last with me for a long time. The only thing I regret was not having a camera with me

That's a cool memory of yours. I have to confess I've never seen an F1 in the flesh, exept for what I believe must have been 01R at the 1996 Geneva car show. BTW, what parts were you delivering?

As for seeing GTR #01R in Geneva in 1996 - do you recall if this was what the display looked like?



I have always wondered where that photo comes from as I am fairly certain it is the only one I have seen like it and there's little reference to tie it to anything or anywhere. That does seem to be the only time GTR #01R was displayed somewhere besides a race track until the recent Autosport International show this month. Prior to that it had been seen at Silverstone and at Goodwood, but I don't think it's been shown anywhere else.

1996 is eleven years ago, and I don't have any pictures, so my answer will be pretty useless. Anyway, I remember the ceiling above the f1 was quite low, and the car was in a rather dark and small corner, but time could have altered my perception on that one. What I'm 99% sure of is that the car was presented by BMW. On your pic the vertical girder next to the car is there to support a ceiling that would be unusually low for Geneva Palexpo, so that confirms my washed out memory, but more importantly, you can see an M coupé wheel in the background... I can't confirm anything though. Sorry!

I still have a promotional black and white photograph I begged for. It shows 01R seen from above right, and is a real photograph. I'll scan everything as soon as possible (all my old magazines and stuff are in my parent's house attic, so it could take some time before I find everything).

The parts I delivered to McLaren were the lightweight plastic GTR side and engine cover window kits for a company I was involved with at that time.
