They did a story a few months back on our local news about all of the lighters and other "contraband" collected by the screeners. There were many barrels full of these items and I guess they were being shipped off to some warehouse in another city to be "recycled",( some items sold at auction, discarded, given away etc.) I was thinking after reading this post, too bad some of the newly banned items couldn't be collected and donated to local shelters. I know items like makeup, and other opened personal items should be thrown away, but what about all the perfumes, colognes, unopened shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, etc.) ? There is always a need at shelters and "halfway houses" and other types of venues for these items.
