Haha, is this a car audio forum?

Anyways, most of us are pretty reckless drivers when we turn 16 (or whichever is the legal driving age in your area) and I was no exception. Like many of you, from 14-15 I itched to feel the need for speed and I couldn't wait till 16 to enjoy the thrill of high speed driving, so one night at a silent 3am, equipped with only a driver's (learner's) permit, I dared to venture out onto the public roads with my old man's '94 Camry (I know, not the most elegant thing, but at least it was a V6). Only having had about 3-4 hours of seat time behind the wheel in my life (all that time supervised by pops, as well), I thought to myself that I should make this trip worthwhile, so for the first time ever, I headed for the freeway onramp. The moment I entered the onramp, I forced the V6 to sing through all 4 automatic gears, all the way until the tach began to say 'enough'. The car was electronically goverened (like most P.O.S.'s out there) somewhere under the 140 mph mark, and I'm pretty sure I was doing 135, but could only glance at the speedometer intermittently, since I had my hands full trying to keep the car centered in the lane. But I knew I was somewhere between 133-137 mph since the engine topped out and the fuel cut-off kicked in. Man, do you ever notice how loud the rumble lane separators sound at around 120? "Bbrrraaaaappp" Of course, being the immature inexperienced moronic driver I was, I had trouble negotiating the slight curvatures of the freeway, and so I would wander from lane to lane.

After that, I pretty much calmed down from such needless wreckless driving, almost like an adolescent kid who finally got some from some chick for the first time. I guess it all worked out OK, considering that my own cars have been inline fours up until now, and there's no way normal four bangers could ever hit that area.

Question

Morpheus, what do you mean a normal four banger could never do that speed, my rice burner would hit 140 easily, its a 2.2L Turbo, all stock. I have never tried to wind it out totally on the highway because my first experience going about 110mph got me pulled over by a State Trooper. Ive had it to 120 on back roads but I wont dare to push it on the highway again.

120mph (200 kph) in both a 91 nissan stanza and a 78 vette with the T-top open.
Fastest quarter, too slow, cant drive alone yet.

You say your camry has a limiter, than it would probably be at 112mph, not 130+. Those would be V-rated rubber, and I dont think a Camry ever came with that. Anyone wanna back me up??

Ahh, but you see, you've answered your own question. Perhaps I should have been a little clearer. "Normal" was the key word, and by this I was describing your average joe under 2.0L naturally aspirated boring economotors (these are the engines that have powered my own cars in the past and I can't break 120). But yeah, a 2.2L turbo could totally rape 140 mph without breaking a sweat, and I'm not just saying it either, since I was sitting shotgun in a lightly modified Eagle Talon TSi-AWD once, and we were running fairly even with an M3 on the highway. Too bad M3s are electronically limited too; it would have been wonderful to see it waste us.

Nope. You spurred my curiosity on whether or not I really did go that fast, so I went to the local library (couldn't find crap about Camry V6 top speed specs online) and browsed through old car rags and most say around 135 mph electronically limited. As for tire rating, I don't know much about that car since it was never mine, but the next time I see a '94 V6 LE Camry with factory tires, I will besure to check.

granted the S is no rocket....but its not THAT slow either.....
and at that speed, its just whos willin to push it that extra bit....I was. He wasnt and dropped out.....so no he didnt "kill me" (it would be different if it was at a street light or something) and I didnt mean to race him....I was just driving by him and passed him and he i guess didnt like that....so he came up beside me and gave me the "ya wanna go" look...And then we just went.....
