Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
awsomen news, nice to that Tamiya still cares about people like us. but i'm gonna do a "wait and see" with this kit, I think alot of people are expecting Enzo, Carrara GT. but we could end up with detailing like the WRX, and a metal chassis, lets hope Tamiya does'nt do that, becouse if that happens, it will be death to tamiya in the plastic kit segment.
If Tamiya is going to continue to do just Supercars, I doubt if they'll do anything thats not affiliated with a large car company. maybe we'll see an 07 Porsche 997 Turbo, or a 997 911 GT3 RS. and a small chance we could see a Bugatti Veyron |

What's the reason why a lot of people dislike the metal chassis?

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
Well,
The die cast chassis is hated, as it’s looked as making the kit simplified. However, a valid point came out that even I was too stubborn to listen to. And that is, who the hell turns models over to look at the chassis anyhow..?? As long as the SLR is coming, die cast chassis or not, I’m happy. Tamiya will perhaps give us the fancy opening doors though. And that would be a sweet detail idea… Hmm… I’m mellowing out. Few months back I’d have gone off on a tangent about this. But, I hope it’s not a diecast chassis. LOL |

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
The diecast chassis is a sign that Tamiya has lost their interest in high-detail plastic kits for builders, and focusing on lower-detail models w/diecast chassis that are not as detailed...but add weight to a finished model, as Tamiya sells their models finished now. Personally on a curbside I'm not worried over it; but for continuity's sake I really hope that like the Enzo and Carrera GT that Tamiya foregoes any thought of diecast anything on the SLR. If a car as significant as the SLR ends up a curbside w/diecast chassis it will be a sad day. Tamiya used to be something special.

Even on details that aren't visible on the completed model they pit lots of effort in. So yes barely anybody flips their cars to look at the chassis, but the builders know that it is incorrect and THAT is the point. |

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
My point in disliking diecast chassis is that I have problems with converting it into a GT1 racer. People who want to convert there kits, or detail them up, have problems with it as it is not as workable as plastic. That's my concern also. And the argument for more weight, my a.. , if I want that, I could put weight in hidden corners.
But anyway, Very Glad to see this kit coming for my GT1 project

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
Will be good to see this kit
I cant see a die cast chassis as they would have done it on the gt i think they have opted for die-cast on some models to lower costs to pay for the increased cost of the pre painted and master models. Even so im sure the kit will be of the high standard we are used too. this sort of kit they just cant skimp on can they? Although some of the later kits havent exactly been as crisp as a few years ago. Who knows time will tell i supose? |

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
First it's a good news. The 3 most requested kit was Porsche Carrera GT, Mercedes SLR and the Mclaren F1. Maybe someone is listening...
But I will wait and see too. In the last 2 years, Tamiya have made every single effort to cut the production cost of a kit and asking more money from us. Making shortcoming in details and putting a Die Cast chassis that is only a reason to ask even more money for nothing. So yes, this kit could be another Enzo, or can be like a 350Z with a Die cast chassis that will cost 3200Yen (which is what I believe it will) Also note it's the first real new model since the Xanavi kits that was release near 2 years ago !!! (all other kit are retooled kit) And the last no racing car kit was the Porsche Carrera, which was relesed July 2004.... Few years ago, Tamiya was releasing 4 to 12 (good) kits by year... now It's 1 every 2 years.. Talk about respect...

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
I'm not convinced that tamiya making kits for the Enzo, Carrera Gt and now SLR is a sign of them listening to the punters. Those cars are probably the most "important" and most marketed and directly competitive to each other cars out there. Business wise, it was always going to be a no brainer to tool them.
IF they really were listening to what we want, we'd be seeing kits of the not so mainstream such as the Zondas, Astons, Bentleys, Lotus', XK8/R anyone? Heck, even a simple re-tool of the 996 Carrera into GT2 and turbo forms would make hell of a lot of people happy. Instead what do we get? Re-issues of (admittedly nice) kits.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR
I agree with Willimo. I think the SLR will be tooled without the diecast chassis. Tamiya release these supercars in pre built as 1/12 models, and leave the 1/24 as kits.
I doubt they will miss the trick with the SLR doors. Thats too gimicky for Tamiya not to tool up for. They did the same with the Enzo, and a lesser detailed, but nice kit nonetheless Astra DTM. It would make sense to have the Enzo, GT and SLR as full detail supercar kits. The collectors would lap that one up. I mean, how many of use have not purchased the Enzo or GT yet. I've got them, twice over. We will have to wait and see, I'm still shocked that Tamiya has just put this one up, without much info. What I hope is not true, is that someone from Tamiya US has updated the website incorrectly, and it's a RC pre built quick drive or something... We'll all just have to wait, and see what Tamiya has planned. Now it's on their website, it won't be much longer before we hear something, but I still shudder about the 307...
