Re: PINKS: Boosted Trans Am vs Boosted Civic

From what I read....that Civic was good for 10 second passes with a good driver.
This was coming from the T/A owner.

I guess the show should have assumed he would lie and found a 500 hp SRT-4 for him to race. But the ricers would have still called the race unfair because it was a 1.8L I4 vs a 2.4L I4.

It was a 600hp car, the T/A owner dyno'd it at over 500whp.

I thought he said it made 520 hp after he did some tuning.

According to the thread that Banditkiller put up, the T/A driver dynoed the Civic to 540whp. The car doesn't sound weak to me, it just raced alot faster car.

But that was a link to the Honda forum and I find anything on there hard to believe. Also 540 hp still isn't 600 hp.

Re: PINKS: Boosted Trans Am vs Boosted Civic

540whp is alot more then 600 flywheel horsepower. He can safely claim that he has 600 horsepower. I'd assume that he was experiencing 15% parasitic loss to the wheels, so that would put him at 616 horsepower (I'm doing this off the top of my head).

I’m assuming that the horsepower numbers given for the show are at the wheels. Do you know any one that gives HP numbers before a race based on what they think they might be making at the flywheel?

And there is no way a modern FWD car with a manual transmission has 15% parasitic loss. I think 10% would be more realistic.

The owner is saying it makes 557 at the wheels. Again not 600.

You think he's using the stock transmission Dude, he's got like fucking 400+more whp then a stock civic does. I'm sure that car has some built tranny, and the bigger parts = more parasitic loss. Dunno about the 10% either, cause that's one heckuva transmission then.

He says he is running a stock GSR transmission.

But this goes back to my point that nobody enter a car into a race based on what they think they might be making at the flywheel. You based your HP rating on WHP because it’s the only way to know how much power your car is actually putting to the ground which is the only thing that matters when your racing.

Re: PINKS: Boosted Trans Am vs Boosted Civic

Ok on this page there is a post by a guy named Milkman.
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ighlight=pinks
"When we woke up the next morning we did it take the car to MSP and dyno/tune it. We made 405 first pull, and 530 with the boost turned up a bit. Jeff's TA doesn't make a lot more than that off the bottle, and weighs 1400# more."

405 hp and 530 with more boost = not 600 hp.

Re: PINKS: Boosted Trans Am vs Boosted Civic

530whp still works out to close to 600hp flywheel. 583hp if you add 10%. 593hp if you add 12%, 609hp with 15%.

Still a potent Civic either way you look at it. Just not potent enough on race day. Plain and simple.

With a better driver, an LSD ( ) and without all the streetracer bs, that could have actually been a good matchup. How are you gonna have 600 hp with no LSD, racing harness, or rollcage? And how are you gonna bs thebfirst two races to get the host in your favor? I read on the camaro forums that Jeff (the TA owner) took the civic down the track, barked every gear, and came back scared that he really could've lost his car! No more rich kids w/ no driving experience to Pinks.
