Re: Topless Trio: 360 Spyder
Looks like you are going to be machining some lugs for the wheels too then?
Awesome work, it really is! |

Re: Topless Trio: 360 Spyder
Thanks everyone! Yeah I like the green, too (and wait 'til you see it with the body!). I could do some lugs for the wheels, but they'd be completely cosmetic- the new brakes hold poly caps just like the kit parts, so the wheels get put on as normal (besides, I can't actually thread anything that small- yet). And no, I think if I had OCD I would probably get more done.
![]() Meanwhile, here's some work on the suspension. Again, I was lucky enough that Tamiya included excellent dampers with the kit. Their only weakness is of course that it's nearly impossible to create a good looking spring in injection molded plastic. So as I knew I was going to replace the spring section, I may as well do the whole dampers, right? ![]() Here are some machined odds and ends and one of the completed replacement dampers. ![]() These are the new mounting points. They're really really small. ![]() Ready for mounting. Looks just like the kit part- only shinier! ![]() ![]() In it's new home. The pivot pins are PE bolt heads. I could have drilled them out and put in actual pivots, but it would hardly make a visual difference. On the other hand if there was a good way to hinge the a-frames, it wouldn't be hard to make the damper functional. ![]() ![]() But of course the super large discs do a pretty good job of hiding the suspension. ![]() This kind of work would really make more sense on an Enzo or CGT, where the dampers and bellcranks are readilly visible- but I'm considering this practice for when I build one! Meanwhile if at all possible, I would like to finish this one by the end of the year. I guess we'll see....Thanks for watching!
