Re: 300zx progress thread

Did my first ever form out of candle ?wax? and stuffed some epoxy glue in it.

I think the problem is that when the epoxy cures somekind of gas vapores, and thos airbubbles form in the replica. Gotta buy a new epoxy that doesn't give me that effect.

Cheerz,

Maciek

Re: 300zx progress thread

thats pretty sweet.. and a good idea.. really good idea! I think I will have to use that.. try 5 minute epoxy.. the 2 part.. dries clear.. and with little to no air bubbles

Re: 300zx progress thread

Ive had to make windows out of cd cases before.. what I did was take some tape.. tape the old window to get a pattern.. put it on the CD case.. cut it out.. boil some water.. dip it in the boiling water for like 5 seconds.. take it out to see if it bends.. if not.. keep puting it in for like 5 seconds at a time untill it is soft enough to bend.. and it will hold the shape when cool and there will be no burn marks. works also for taillights n such

Re: 300zx progress thread

How do i not burn my fingers with the boiling water?

I'll try some other epoxy. It doesn't have to be surer duper stuff/ And i dislike those 5 min epoxies. They don't dry as hard as the 24h ones - at leats the ones I Used to use.

Thanks for the tip

Cheerz,
Maciek

Re: 300zx progress thread

you put it on like a large spoon for puting it in the water.. and wear latex gloves IF you want to when you try to bend it.. it should not be that hot when it comes out of the water.

Re: 300zx progress thread

Whoo. I didn't post for a long time. I see that our forum is half dead so I feel responsible.

Back to the Z.

I cut out that piece of plastic for the rear window:

The wheel I'm making is 95% ready. Glued a ring to it so I can mount it to the brake rotors. That ring fits right into the rotor. Later I'll make caliprs, so the caliper will be in 1 place, and the rotor is going to rotate just like in a good 1:24 car.

Now the bodywork.

I'm in the middle of it. The front bumper is already pulled more to the front, the sideskirts are as planned, and the kaminari rear spoiler is 50% made. Still alot of work with putty ahead of me but ill get over it.

I dont remember posting pics of the interior. Its at the begining of being rebuilt so still there is alot to be done. I plan on making a lcd in the dash, and 16cm speakers in the door panels, maybe even 2 in a panel.
Ohh and the JDM tail lights.

The scratch made 16 speaker -

And ill tell you guys that my S2000 was in the worlds biggest car tuning magazine
- Maxi Tuning - of course in the Polish edition - scan4u:

Re: 300zx progress thread

looking great so far. I think it would look great if you made the lips on the rear wheels wider, so push in the spokes deeper.

Re: 300zx progress thread

ehh the rims are just a mock-up so... but still I cant make the dishes deeper, because the wheels wouldnt fit the wheel wells. But I shurely will make the biggest lip I can with no widening - that is not an option for the Z.

Re: 300zx progress thread

very nice work so far. are you going to paint the window frame on the back window black like the stock piece? and is that all you are doing to the tail lights because you should also take the red off and paint the whole back of the tails black, it would look really nice. and great job on getting into a mag! how did they contact you and stuff so they could get your car in it?

Re: 300zx progress thread

About the mag. It has a forum where Polish model tuners present their cars. I pm'ed 1 of the editors of the mag and there it is. I was the first person that had his model car presented on a whole page.

The hatch window - yes ill paint it black on the sides just like stock.

The lights - thay are done JDM tails look just like these.
