Re: Corvettes racing around the world
Johnny O'Connell in his # 3 C6-R lost the race at Lime Rock Park recently to Pedro Lamy in his factory Aston Martin DBR9 by 0.033 seconds.
The Corvettes were carrying 199 more pounds than the Aston Martins, running smaller intake restrictors, and using smaller fuel tanks as a result of "balance of performance" adjustments mandated by the sanctioning body. - http://www.corvetteracing.com/histor...imerock3.shtml

Re: Corvettes racing around the world
I was there at Limerock and that ALMS race kicked ass. It was also the first road race I'd ever seen, aside from the 6 races before ALMS that day. Definitely the fastest.

2nd place for Luc Alphand in the 1,000 km of Nürburgring
press release The third race in the Le Mans Series European Championship was completed with success by the Luc Alphand Aventures (LAA) team, which finished second in the LMGT1 category. Luc Alphand, Jérôme Policand and Patrice Goueslard relayed each other at the wheel of the Corvette C-5R throughout the six-hour race at the Nürburgring track in Germany. The LAA team continues to turn in solid performances in the field of endurance auto racing. Despite the intense heat, the entire team perfectly managed the 1,000 km race. Jérôme and Patrice were able to double their driving times and optimize their performance thanks to the Corvette’s air-conditioning system. “We are relieved, since we weren’t sure we would ever cross the finish line,” said official LAA driver Patrice Goueslard. “On top of that, I burst a tire because of a stone, six laps from the last relay. I had to manage this factor as well and find the right balance since the track was very abrasive. It was extremely tight between the first five cars in the LMGT1 category, and we finished only 10 seconds behind the official Aston Martin… It’s great; we are more than satisfied!” After his first race in the LMS Championship, Luc Alphand is confident about the team’s position in the rankings. “Yesterday I had some tough moments during qualifying, when I unfortunately hit one of the prototypes and ended up in the gravel. Obviously I went to bed very frustrated but today we more than made up for it. We improved our time and had no incidents. We made the podium once again and I am really thrilled. We managed the race perfectly.” Reliability is the key to this performance. The technical team did a great job of managing the race since the Corvette C-5R crossed the finish line with less than one lap’s worth of fuel in the tank, after refueling only five times instead of six like its competitors. There are still two races left in the 2006 LMS European Championships, and the pressure is on. The LAA team is currently in third place in the overall rankings, well positioned to achieve its objectives. Next rendezvous: late August at Donington in the UK. |

Re: Corvettes racing around the world
In the program I have, It says the C6-R's engine only has 590hp. Is this true? I thought it would be a lot faster in GT1. I watched miller motorsports race on CBS. Vettes didn't do so good against the Astons.

They had the following three restrictions in Utah:
- 1 mm smaller intake air restrictors (34 less hp) - 10 liter smaller fuel tank - 199 more pounds than the non-factory Aston Martin DBR9s "The restrictions added to the Corvette C6.Rs at Salt Lake City have been rescinded. The Corvettes will race under the same rules as they had at Lime Rock, which means a greater fuel capacity and a larger diameter on its air restrictor." [They will still have 199 pound penalty]. - http://www.americanlemans.com/news/Article.aspx?ID=2330 Last edited by dan carlson; 07-23-2006 at 07:33 PM. |

Corvette Racing scores 50th victory
http://corvetteracing.com/history/20...ortland3.shtml Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta won the Portland Grand Prix yesterday with their # 4 Corvette C6-R. Beretta now has 28 class wins which is the most of any ALMS driver. I was at the race and saw the brake rotors glowing red on the Corvette C6-Rs as they were braking on the backstretch for turn 10. Gigliotti wins in Utah Lou Gigliotti won his second race of the season with a win last weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. http://www.world-challenge.com/news/story.php?ID=356 |
