Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

WOOOOW I love this head light!!! This bike is coming great! Good job with the CF and love the colour of the rear damper set up. The two colors of the cowlings are very well chosen great contrast and nice shiny parts.

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

hmm, maybe...why not. Will be the rebuilt bump that will harden the quest but I'll really think about it.
Thanks for the comments!

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

I love this thread. I'm planning on tuning a Honda Superblackbird after I move and can start new projects, and this build is tremendously inspiring. The work is just incredible, and gives me the itch to get to work! I love it, keep it up!

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

wow Joel,
your paint jobs, got more shinny bits than a guy the night before he gets married and the boot polish nuggeting, lol.

Great work on the final colour mix, the guard looks nice in red. How about a seat colour of tan to blend the 2 colours .

Boot polish nuggeting :o This guy cracks me up ! Who let him in here.

Congrats on the graduation Joel. Does that mean you know have a Phd in modeling, cuz it sure looks like it. Superb work on the CF, paint and pretty much eveything else. Look forward to seeing it go together.

Dave

Thanks for everything guys! It's a pleassure to read it, I assure you, allthough it makes me blush...
Phd in modelling...that would be something. If you start the school Dave I'll sure pay the tuition.

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

Rob: I would love to see you take on a Streetbike, but just wait until I've finished this one will you (that was a joke if it didn't come through )

Rod; Hi mate, the tan idea sounds interesting, I think I go with that. Any color specific suggestions?

Rog: ?? No, no one by that name obviously...

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

Hi, Joel...

Great work you're doing on that R1.
I built one some years ago, slightly modded (ever-so slightly, after seeing yours )

Who am I to ask this (have a 1:12 Supermoto conversion going on for almost a year), but how's the R1 doing?

Cheers,

Tiago

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

Tiago: Thanks for the comments. Any pics of your build by any chance? The build has been quite low recently due to me starting at a new work. Hope to do some minor stuff tomorrow.

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

So, it's time for a minor update. I've done some work to the head lights painting the glass clear yellow and tried to tint the wind screen with a, let's say so so result... wind screen has to get some more work, will think about how.
In the mean time I'll show you the finished mufflers. These are the stages they went through.

1. Glued pieces together, cut hangers.
2. Sanded down the molded in rivets and drilled holes with .5 mm drill bit
3. Puttied, sanded, putted, sanded...
4. Painted gloss black enamel
5. Put on some SMS carbon fiber decals.
6. Painted whole shabang with Modelers' Super Clear
7. Masked off the CF area and painted the end parts Alclad II Pale gold
8. Inserted Model Factory Hiro aluminum rivets in the pre drilled holes.

The result are as follows:

Thanks for looking
Joel

Re: WIP: Yamaha R1 Tuner

Hi,

looks great, but why didnīt you sand the rings in the middle of the muffler under the carbon decal?
