Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

its a 5 speed. There was a thread a while back about what people topped their gst's and gsx/tsi's out at and people in their modded turbo dsms barly hit that speed. It may have said you were doing 145 but I can almost garentee your spedo is way off

I've done 120 in my N/T 2.0 with the mods in my sig. Took fucking forever, or atleast it felt like it. But once I hit that, I knew it was really close to being done. Granted mine is an auto, but even an extra gear wouldn't have mattered much.

Unless you were going downhill for 5 miles, had the wind at your back, and were being pushed by a turbo DSM that was modded to shit, I don't believe you...and neither does anyone else, because it didn't happen.

HAHA... maybe the car felt kind of fast because its so small. I drove a Mitsu Expo for a while, it had a 1.8 in it and yes, it had the impression of being fast because the car was a tin can. I raced against my friends 99 Prelude (~190hp) and got demolished.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

fine ill play ball with this speedo being off idea, but how can that happen? i was on stock rims and tires too. and there was no computer mods, no guages were messed with... but im thinking there might be a difference in the gearing, between the gen 1 and you alls later gens. does anyone know all the gear ratios off hand for the gens. i suck when it comes to transmissions, so lamen terms will be required. im thinking what if the gen 1s had a closer ratio, then your later year gens. then is would have required me to have less hp to get the speed.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

only reason im fighting is i know i did it. im not trying to come off as some know it all pos bastard guy. but im the kind of guy who likes knowing the reasoning behind these things. im not digging for a fight here, what i want is someone can say the tech of why its not possible ,or it is possible but only under these conditions. thats all im asking. because appearantly you guys must know something i dont in the mechanical of why. but we dont have anyone who knows a whole lot about 1.8s to assist in the tech info. because all im hearing. is thats not possible... but none is saying the why part of it (and dont say hp, cuz pony power isnt all of it). if a ford aspire and geo metro can hit over 100 and the 1.8 has what half a liter on them why is it so impossible that mine cant?

if i still had the car ild be able to tell you more. or hell i know what ill do, ill have a friend of mine top out his (his and my car are exacly the same< that is if he still has the car) and we will see if i can put some edivence behind my claim for you. would that help?

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

Just because a turd falling from a plane will do 145mph doesn't mean your junky 1.8 laser will do it on the freeway.

I have a TSi AWD, which is the same thing as a GSX and it won't even do 145mph. Think about it, you can argue with us and say that "blah blah blah gearing blah blah blah" all day long. But the simple fact is, the gearing cannot be that much different from a 1g to a 2g. At 120mph in 5th gear my motor was reving at like 5500rpm. I'm not sure about you, but I'm not gonna risk blowing my motor to go the extra 25mph and probably be at 7000rpm topped out. IF the speed governer would let me go 145mph. And don't try to say they didn't have speed governers that long ago, because they have been putting them in cars since at least the 80s. Oh yeah, and why are you putting his GSX on the line here about going 145mph when its your car that "went" 145mph. Give us some proof that it really in fact went this fast and maybe they will all lay off you about it. Until then, I'm standing with everybody else and calling BS on it. Another good thought about it is that no "economy" car in the US is gonna do 145mph stock. They just wouldn't allow them to. What is the economical purpose to have a car that has a top speed like that? I don't see a good purpose unless they were trying to promote speeders and street racing. Its just not logical for them to do something like that...

I've thrown my thoughts in here though and wasted enough of my time. I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you and waste anymore of my time about it. I've met lots of people who claim to burn Corvettes in their Cavaliers and they will argue it till the end. I say, let em think they can until they show us otherwise.
