Re: Oh Boy Did the Tune up today.... Sort of.

you say the heat shield is gone? Was it broken off, or just not put back on? If you went to a junkyard and got a replacement, would you be able to just bolt it on? I myself dont think its really that big of a deal. I've seen plug wires take a beating before, just make sure they are routed away from the motor, and not tied to or touching anything hot. You should be fine. I would however go to the parts store and get some of those plug wire organizer things, (for lack of a better term) and kind of keep it routed halfways decent. Also when you did a tuneup, did you check out that throttle bore? Get some carb cleaner and a toothbrush, block the throttle open, and spray it wath carb cleaner, wipe it off with the toothbrush, and rince it with carb cleaner again. I know this wont help your O2 sensor code, but usually people overlook the intake throttle plates when doing a tuneup, and if it doesnt completly close because of carbon buildup, you have a high idle and sometimes hard starting. Ok, on to your O2 sensor. Just do your car a favor and give it what it wants. please just replace it, dont be lazy. I wouldnt even go back to autozone to have the codes read, just change it, doing a tuneup wont make the o2 sensor miraculously start working again. Just a little reference for the future, when repairing your car due to fault codes, you always address the 1st one first, usually its the most urgent. I agree with BlazerLT, replace what is broken, if your holding off till the light comes on again, your probably losing gas milage. Just my two cents worth.

I'd re-set the computer and wait til the service engine soon light comes on and then take it to get scanned. I've seen more times then one where false codes appear, and from speaking to my buddy that owns a garage he says its a common thing. Clear it once and check it twice then replace. Just remember electronics you CANT RETURN. So if your wrong your out $$.
