The GR-1 is a stunning design that will still be fresh several years from now.

Re: The next performance car after the GT?

There are several Ford concept cars that fit that criterion that have and will remain just that concepts.

2005 Iosis
http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...s/default.aspx
2004 Bronco
http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...o/default.aspx
1996 Indigo
http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...o/default.aspx
1993 Mustang Mach III
http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...I/default.aspx

But the GR-1 won’t be built unless Ford gets out of the financial hole they are in right now and finds a solution to the problems connected with the V10 or goes to a different engine. Either way it is very unlikely it will make it into production this decade if it ever makes it in to production.

Re: The next performance car after the GT?

I hope it'll be another Mustang. Like a "GT-R or "GT500R." I want less weight, IRS, and at least 600hp.

But then again, who gives a f*%# about what I want?

Re: The next performance car after the GT?

All of that would be fun and it will never happen. I would love to have that out of a Ford but I am not going to want for years for an IRS in a Mustang that is if there ever will be one again. This 3-link is really a joke. Last time I rented a new Mustang I could feel the rear end sliding from side to side in curves and at speeds that my car could take easy. Instead of waiting I will step up to a car that is built for what I want something like say an M3.

Which costs 250 % more than the base Mustang you likely rented.

And still handles better than any mustang under $100K not to mention has better brakes, better seats, and controlls that were designed around the driver.

the v6 you rented doesnt have the same performance parts as the gt. for instance, the v6 doesnt have a panhard bar, the gt does. which explains what you are talking about. have you driven a gt? im sure it handles at least a little better than the rental you had

That doesn't mean that it will be built. Shelby is whoring out his name more now than he did in the 80s with dodge. Remember the GLHS, Lancer, CSX, CSX-T, Dakota, and CSX-VNT? All carried his name all were crap and thankfully have been largely forgotten. Just because it has his name on it doesn't mean that it is any good or that he even had a hand in its production. Hell he really had nothing to do with new GT500 other than a short test drive and a few photos. Ford never signed an exclusive agreement with him for the use of his name on cars. That is why they are able to build the POS CS6 and Shelby-West Coast Customs GT.
