Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

93 Geo Metro
1.0L 5spd
I drive mostly expressway at 75mph and I get between 46-49 mpg.

I reciently replaced the motor, prior to replacing the motor I was getting around 32 mpg - I ran a compression test and nearly fell over when I got 60,20,0 for readings. Sure it ran like crap and I couldn't get it over 60 miles per hour at the time but I had no idea the compression was so shot :P.

Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

I get a solid and predictable 45 mpg. Drive just like I would any other vehicle, fairly lead-footed.

1998 Firefly 1.0 5-speed

I'm a fuel economy freak - I drive easy and relaxed...

- best hwy: 4.1 L/100km --- 69.0 mpg (imp) --- 57.4 mpg (US)
- avg. hwy: 4.6 L/100km --- 61.0 mpg (imp) --- 50.8 mpg (US)
- avg. city: 5.5 L/100km --- 51.2 mpg (imp) --- 42.6 mpg (US)
- all tanks: 5.0 L/100km --- 56.4 mpg (imp) --- 46.9 mpg (US)

(all tanks = 6000+ kms of driving)

My 95 5sp 1.0L HB got 47.5 mpg at my last fill up. That's primarily driving around town at under 40 mph. I typically do a little better when doing highway driving...

Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

I'm doing my best to get 40mpg. I guess I should be happy with my automagic. After getting my transmission fixed my mileage had been a consistant 39.89mpg. I may drive slower just to break 40

Just put the 97 1.0 5 sp Metro hb away for the winter. Have had the car since Sep. 138K miles. Usually in a range of 41-44 mpg. Highest seen: 47. Lowest 38. Each tank mileage calculated from a top off. Driving varies, some times all city, some trips. Normal operating speed on hiways of 75mph. Factory stock except for 5deg ign adv.

What is the AVERAGE MPG for Geo Metros?

First data point - mine is 46.5 mpg with aggressive, lead foot driving
on a 1.0 L 5 speed transmission. '93 GM.

DoctorBill

Add your data here:

Year Geo Made - 91 xfi
Miles per Gallon - 50mpg combined cycle.
Type of driving - Intercity, urban.
Comments - I have found that when I use rot-gut fuel my figures drop to 45, however, when I use Chevron it's 50+. I also went to Gray's Harbor from Vancouver, WA. Averaged about 70-75 mph and still managed 50mpg on the trip.

Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

93 4dr/HB 1.0L 5spd 165kmiles 52.25 mpg for last 17 tankfulls. Worst 46.69mpg/best 54.65mpg. Avg 150/200 mi per wk @ nothing over 60mph. Like MetroMPG, try & drive for max mpg. K&N fltr w/out the CAI connected. Slip into neutral & coast up to stoplights/signs when traffic allows. Keep tires @ 40psi. Use LUCAS upper cyl lubricant/inj cleaner w/each fillup, I like to think it's helping, plus their heavy into drag racing w/sponsorship $'s.

120,000 miles never tuned up, but regular maintenance kept up.
'95 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder
Driving like I stole it, on 89 octane, I get 35 MPG on the highway at 65 MPH I get 42 MPG My ex drove it easy and got 45 MPG. The mileage is inconsistent lately and sometimes as bad as 23 MPG. Time for a tune up

Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

Bought my first Metro, a 3cyl 5 speed 1.0 '94 with 57,000 miles on it from Phoenix in 2000 and drove it across the country to get home. Most people don't believe the mileage I got but I filled it up to the top every time. With tires filled to max pressure AND, the most important thing that most people can't do, driving it at 50 mph I got an average of 65 mpg total freeway driving. One part of the trip, from Carson City, Nevada to Denver, Co. I got 70.2 mpg! I thought the gas gauge was stuck. Might have something to do with the high altitude. Because of that I now own 7 metros. None of the others can get the mileage the first one got. One of my other '94 1.0 3 cyl 5 speeds only gets 52 mpg under the same conditions and speeds. That one has 77,500 miles. The '96 1.3 4 cyl automatic I just bought gets bad mileage. I haven't figured out what it is yet since I have some tranny problems but the gas gauge moves down much faster than my 1.0 5 speeds do. The car I've driven the most is my '94 1.0 3 cyl 5 speed. I bought it with 101,000 and now have 147,000. Cylinder #2 is down to 25 lbs compression. On a trip to N.C. I still got 54 mpg, again at 50 mph. The faster you drive over 50 mph the more mileage you lose. Pisses some people off driving so slow but I really dont care. Automatics get much less mpg's.

'92 Metro XFi, 167k miles.
I was getting consistently between 40 & 42 mpg for about ten tankfuls. Driving 55 mph or 65 mph didn't seem to matter.
I just replaced the throttle body gasket, which cured my hunting idle speed problem, and over 360 miles on the last tankful I recorded 45.8 mpg. Mainly highway at 60 mph. 36 psi tire pressure (+4 psi from placard pressure).

Re: Poll - What is your Metro's Gas Mileage?

96 1.3 sedan
46mpg with acetone (see comment below)
50% casual 50% hard driving
Gets 40mpg with straight gas, 34mpg with ethanol gas, and adding acetone gives a 15% (6mpg) increase in either situation with nicely noticeable power boost and better cold-starts... see http://www.silentpulseinstruments.com/bgm.html for elaborations.

Sure would be nice to get a 15% increase in a 3cyl or bike!
