Agreed, you get into the higher 8's to mid 7's you got an easy 12 second street car.

Yeah really. Just look at how the NHRA and IHRA sportsmen rules are, that gives a pretty good indication of what kind of 1/4 times to expect.

0-6.49 in the 1/8 OR 0-9.99 all have the same rules, 6.50-7.49 OR 10.00-11.99 all have the same rules, etc.

I have a friend that races in a 1/4 and he runs around 12.00 and his 1/8th times are like 7.60s. That shows that those rulebook listed times are pretty close.

Re: Street Vs Track, Why do you prefer the street?

i like racing on streets because i get a better adrenaline rush ot of it. there is always that risk of getting busted by the cops or getting in an accident. plus the track costs money.

What do you think Auto-x is then ? Takes much more skill to be good at that then going in a straight line, wouldnt you think?

That said, I think street is easier and friendlier because in my experience the egos on the track are much bigger than on the street.

The only track here is 30 miles away, but pretty well kept. I don't avidly pursue a street race, that's just looking for a night in the pokie, my family disowning me, and having to go to an auction to buy my car back. If we had a road course, I'd be all over it.

Re: Street Vs Track, Why do you prefer the street?

Track Pros & Cons:
pros 1: Accurate reading of your cars ET
2: Track prep during club days is excellent for traction
3: The thrill of lining up against someone else is fun

Cons: 1: Money, unless your a student or Military member it costs 15 to race, 10 to watch. Street=free
2: Can't get Video footage with a friend in the passenger seat
3: Safety equipment that is required by the local tracks is kind of rediculous for a street car. Here in AZ its 12.3 or quicker for a Rollcage. Lame...And if you run Drag radials or stickier tires you have to have a D/S loop on your car. Even if your car runs 15's...WTF? I have yet to get a good explanation from anyone on why that is. ok enough from me.

Re: Street Vs Track, Why do you prefer the street?

thats pretty steep lol family disowning you?.......but the street is easier, you travel it everyday, it doesnt cost anything........but there is a track like 20 minutes from here, but theres a 15 fee to watch, and 15 to run......i like going there because they have alot of fast ass cars run there, but it seems like if you dont run anything better than a 14.0 you get laughed at and pointed at, but fuck em...........if you street race on an abandoned or dead road, its not any different than racing on a drag strip, if its just you and the other driver, your still only endangering yourself/and him just like at a track, but all in all i choose the street and always will

Re: Street Vs Track, Why do you prefer the street?

I don't really like the track because of all the people there. I hate having to wait 30+min just to get a run from the time you get in the staging lanes. Then you have 20 ricers come up to you thorugh the course of hte night and ask you what kind of intake you have. And finally, on the one night I go(bracket racing night), test and tune is only from 4pm-7pm which really doesn't allow you to run at night when you aren't making tea between your legs(sweating your ass off) sitting in the car with your windows up and running slower than your potential due to the 90* ambient temp.

Then the worst part about test and tune only nights here is you have guys that bring out these super fast cars on trailers, write "NT" on their window(so the ET and MPH isn't shown) and make a weak pass. Then they park it and go around with 10 giant thugs pestering people to bet money and race them. "O yea buddy, my honda has DC headers and a short shifter!!!!" Like everyone doesn't know they have nitrous out the ass on it. Point is, I'd rather stick to being a geeky car kid and enjoy my car by myself without having 10 thugs asking me if I wanna bet and waiting 30 min for a run.

ON the contrary, if I had a night where I had the track to myself, I'd gladly pay ~$100 to be there with a couple friends. And I would prolly stop speeding so much.
