the material you are referring to is called peel and seel, it is very cheap but is notorious for falling off the surface within months........as for dynamat reducing road noise, it does to some degree but really isn't meant for road noise.......vinyl, lead or closed cell foam elevated above
adding constraint layer dampers like dynamat extreme will only do so much for air borne sound (road noise). 3-5 layers would need to be added to get the results that some companies claim. liquid dampers are much better at reduceing airborne sound, and the barriers are very efficiant at reflecting the frequencies that pennitrate the damper. and most of all dynamat is very overpriced, for deadener these are great sites:
