Re: Shift Fast Auto

When I downshift my auto, it's the same as downshifting a manual, the revs go up and it slows down faster.

Re: Shift Fast Auto

the only time you should need to downshift in an auto is when you're going up or down a really steep hill or when you're trying really hard to stop in slippery conditions (snow/rain)

the rest of the time =

Re: Shift Fast Auto

Apperently you didn't know this so I'll enlighten you.

People who use their brakes on the highway are the main cause of traffic jams, because someone brakes, then the people behind him brake, then the people behind them, and it causes a traffic jam, so if I need to slow down, I downshift, no brakes, no traffic. it's easy, another good way is no not crawl up the ass of the person in front of you, so if he slows down, you take your foot off the gas and you don't need to use the brakes.

Re: Shift Fast Auto

so, why arent you marketing something, if you single-handedly have been able to eliminate traffic jams where ever you go, you should be a millionaire.
im not sure i believe that people seeing brake lights causes traffic jams... from my almost 8 years of driving, its usually just some jackass who cant merge, so he stops and when he does pull out, he slows everyone behind him down, cause he has no speed... and btw, if there ever was something that was hard on an auto, downshifting at 70 mph would be it, next to throwing it in park at those speeds.

a buddy of mine works at the local toyota dealer, and some lady was on the interstate, passing a truck in her brand new car, so she downshifted her auto, and when she did, it accidentally went into 2nd instead of 3rd, which could easily happen, and she blew the block into about ten pieces. with a manual, there is a full stroke between gears, making it very hard to put it into the wrong gear, but with auto, it could happen easy, and forcing those kinds of revs on a motor can be devastating

just dont think its a good idea, but its your car

Re: Shift Fast Auto

#1. This isn't something I dreamed about and thought "Hey, I'm better then God!", they had this big nation wide study in the newspaper that proved this.

#2. When I downshift I'm going like 50-55mph.

#3. I only have a 3 speed so I can't really mess it up cause I gotta really hit it to get it into first.

#4. I didn't say it was the only reason, I said it was the main reason.

#5. You fail at proving me wrong.

ok?

Wouldnt you rather pay for new brake pads then a new transmission? i like the HUGE TRAFFIC jam and the little brake wear over the strain on the clutch and transmission

Re: Shift Fast Auto

The car has near 260,000 kms on it, there's never had any tranny work done on it, my dad drove the car for 150 of those 260 and he ALWAYS downshifted when he was on the highway. So don't give me any of that rebuilding the tranny bullshit.

i didnt really care much to prove you wrong man, i said its your car, so ill let you prove yourself wrong, and lighten up, gosh !111!

also wanted to add, topaz's are pimp !
ive always wanted to make a twin cam twin intercooled twin turbo tempo, which is the sister car to the topaz, just to badge it "Twin Cam Twin Intercooled Twin Turbo Tempo" in billboard letters on the side of the door, like they did in the '80's.

hahaha... interesting. on a Tempo you say? That's very creative... but i really hope your just saying that as a joke.

Replying to the thread...If you decide to not activate your brake lamps on the highway... it could cause some problems some time in the future. Most old-time drivers out there brake only when they see the car in front of them do the same. Don't expect every driver out there to be cautious enough to realize that your car is rapidly slowing down w/o "braking" (from their point of view). It's okay if you downshift instead of brake at times but just make sure no one is close behind you. It fukin sucks to get rear ended.. it's happened to me, but it was in bumper-to-bumper traffic so the (lady) driver wasn't paying attention in that case.

Jus a heads up for safety.

i've always enjoyed scaring people that tried tailing me by downshifting thru rev-matches in my 5-speed. They panic and brake when they see themselves closing in .. and then i jus take off since i'm already dropped a few gears... haha... good fun.

Re: Shift Fast Auto

shift, i do that too.. they don't even notice!! then you scare the shit out of them and take off.. gotta love it..

and logik, i know what you mean about brake lights slowing all the traffic down but honestly, once the car behind you sees that you've slowed down enough, they're gonna step on their brakes.. so in reality, you're trying to make it convenient for the people behind you but they'll just step on their brakes.. to me there's no point unless you're on a hill or trying to stop suddenly.. and the whole tranny work issue: it won't have to be replaced if downshifting is done on highways like that.. its the back and forth shit that gives it the wear and tear.. that car should last you a while if its still going strong at 260k..

Re: Shift Fast Auto

Well I'm doing it, if no one else wants to then that's no my problem, also since when I touch my brake pedal, the brake lgihts come on before the brakes engage, when someone is riding my ass, I just touch the brake pedal with my left foot while still keeping my speed, the guy behind me panics and slams on his brakes, it's good stuff.

Re: Shift Fast Auto

Screw Automatics. They are worthless. My 2nd 240 was auto and I had to sell it because I couldnt wait to do the swap. Now I have a 5 spd S14. My friend bought my to auto and did the manual swap. Shifting an AUTO??? That is about as ricy as it gets. Im sorry, but its true, especially if you are proud of it. All agree?

Re: Shift Fast Auto

well if someone shifts an auto in city driving then yeah, but as i've said twice before, hills and sudden stops are different
