Not if its a used Jap import.
Then you can buy two for the cost of the R 300.

Iv driven a 540i with M spec suspension (not quite M5 standard) M5 wheels and mildly tuned engine. It was to say the least very disapointing. The ride was hard and rather jiggly. It would be nice on a smooth motorway, but on most NZ roads it could very tiresome.
The engine and g/box were of course absolutly awsome, but it really needed the extra hp the M5 has before it could be called really fast.

basicly if you were not interested in the snob value of the BMW badge then one of the HSV range would be more than worth a look, and chances are if your buying new would be a better buy.
Of course there is the image to go with it, and the fact that BMW have been building cars for much longer, and do have an added level of sophistication that comes with the much higer price tag. but I personaly dont think its worth the extra $$

Woah, woah, woah, I didn't say shit about a TV being neccasary, I just think it is a nice touch, that is all Plus only about two of the above cars are sedans, the rest are hatches or coupes

Also.......Apart from the Monaro GTS, are there currently any 300Kw HSV's on sale?????

Bust My Virginity

Now now boyz and girls, Lets not fight over the greatest cars on the planet. If you drive the Audi S4 with the lovely seat warmers and the powerful Bi turbo grunt or the HSV all Oz grunt with the power of exotict Euro cars with "cup holders", may I add that the fastest car and most refinning car that I have had to drive would be...ahh I forgot, and I have worked for Subaru and Audi, oh yes and Honda as well, not to mention Mitsushiti...PLEASE,
One car I will not surpass.... is the 1974 Mdl 7.2Ltr (720sl) Merc. I hear you now saying "that oldie..." Well that oldie would pee all over any car wanting the style and comfort of the now-a-days crap!
FAST, Cruzie and with the motion leveling suspension (just to add in an old fav). would give me the all thumbs up. Sooo please get beside your selves and realy..Step into a real car.

Oh yeah......I love me holdens..

Quote from Consumer Reports:
"But Consumer Reports saves its toughest criticism for European luxury brands, including Mercedes -- which has exactly zero models on this year's recommended list. (The new, redesigned E-class sedan isn't rated.) Results for other European brands are mixed. The Saab 9-5 scored "above average" for reliability in Consumer Reports survey, but didn't outpoint Japanese rivals such as the Lexus IS300 or the Acura TL (which is made in America). Only one BMW model -- the venerable 5-series -- got an "average" reliability score. The Audi A4, a hot seller in recent years, was marked "well below average." Volkswagen, which owns Audi, fared poorly overall with its Volkswagen brand, with only the Passat achieving an "average" reliability rating. That doesn't bode well for VW's efforts to position the Volkswagen brand as a near-luxury make in America. Ford's Jaguar S-type and X-type models got branded as among the least-reliable models in their classes -- a setback for a brand that had made great strides."

Seems the latest BMW M3 is also beset by unreliability woes. 5,000 miles equals a rod through the block. 111 engine failures and counting. Some owners have had their second engine blow also. BMW advised owners to use 60 weight oil to try and fix the problem. That hasn't solved it. BMW was blaming its customers for "over revving" the engines. The SMG transmission should not allow an over rev to occur

'Sophistication' has its (exhorbitant) price
I'd rather enjoy Holden reliability that be seen pushing BMW sophistication - not a good look

well.... i'd never heard any such stories about the M3... im surprised, to say the least!

I dont know what to make of the consumer report.. The E class has been universally praised by all critics, and VW reliability is legendary, which i will testify to as i have owned a Golf which hasnt had a single problem since i got it, 1998. Thats 4 years of problem free motoring. So i dont know what to make of the report..

ccl: ill still stick with the BM, no doubt about it
