Now that I have a good rebuilt motor, I have a strong car and I know what has to be done with it. If you get a used car who the hell knows what your going to have to deal with. If you know it'll be straight if you get a good running motor then I'd work for that. I love my crx, I think if I get a new car later on I'll still keep my crx.

I hope you get to keep it.
Yeah thats what my mom keeps telling me. "You had a great car before you screwed the engine up!"

Same here, Most people look at vehicles as just a BBV of $xxx dollars. The civic has more of a sentimental irreplacable value to me. No my integra on the other hand. Heck i dont give a frick about it. Its only worth to me what its worth! My friends are like get rid of that old thing and get a new car. Despite the fact if i sold both cars i could probaly get a new car, no problem, the fact is that i dont. Id rather have 2 older cars and one teenage car(not old nor young) that have a brand spanking new one!! Because its more practical( one DD, while the other is being worked on!

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

I can't have a saturn and keep my car, i either keep my car, lose my girlfriend and not have anyway to get to my job or school... Or i ditch my car, possibly keep my girlfriend, POSSIBLY, and have a car that can get me around.

The last thing I want to do is get rid of a CRX this clean.. but.. I just don't know... and I have to decide ASAP

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

I think that it is a rod/piston is broken. Or a spun bearing. You can find the old posts of the symptums... but here we go again.

There is a knocking, very quiet, only audible at about 3000RPM's or higher. There was very low oil when I first heard this. The oil light was NOT on...

Other then that I have a code 9 sometimes, but the timing seems fine to me....

low on oil+knocking, I think, usually means there is a piston that broke, or a rod that got bent.

Which is why I want to buy a new motor.... I can't do a rod/piston job alone... or afford to take it in and get it done. Somone here has a set of stock ZC rods and pistons for 100$ that I was going to buy, but install is a bitch.

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

Just drive it man, I'v seen cars go for 50,000 miles with a knocking rod. Hell the worst that could happen is you'll blow the motor and have to get a new one, but sence your planning that allready..

screw it, get new parents!

man, if it wasnt so far i'd bring u my d15b2 and just give it 2 u and help u install it. and i thinks its gay that ur parents wanna spend more money on a new car then less money on a new motor, maybe they feel the saturns safer and more economical or something? i dunno, they must have a reason. i'd bring up the arguement tho and tell them to just spend 1/2 of what they were going to lol

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

But if i drive while knocking what happens if something breaks. I mean, my crown victoria ended up having a piston through the oil pan.

Most of the hardware under the hood is new so I don't want to damage that as well as the motor, the motor i don't relaly care about its the other stuff that will be a lot more complicated if i break it.

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

I would just drive it. If it breaks, it will probably screw up the inside of the combustion chamber. Even if it goes through the oil pan, so what, a new engine will have a new oil pan included with it, and there is nothing underneath the oil pan.

a couple of summers ago i saw a sedan outside of a car lot and it said something silly like $280 (give or take $$$). we stopped and asked what was wrong. the guy says it has a knock but it drives. previous owner drove it to the lot and they had been driving it around the lot to move it from here to there until it sold. oh yea, he also said the oil light was on. we wanted to hear this "knock" so we got the key and turned it over. holy mother of all that is good.....it was the loudest horrific sound. immediately shut it down. bought the car anyway as we had a replacement engine sitting around.we yank the bad engine and find this:

some people would say "oh well, it was a bad engine anyways"....others would probably freak out.

screw that...just ask for the $500. tell them in your defense you didn't know what kind of torture the previous engine had before you got it. the replacement engine you will since you will be putting it in

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

Ask $2000 and then get a rebuilt B18, tell the parents it's basically like a brand new engine.

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

uhm... Clawhammer read the full post please, and Lady.... they seriously aren't going to want me to drive this car.

There is no way that they are going to give me any money for this CRX. They want it out of my possession. End of story.

Re: get rid of my CRX = get a free car

Well i just took most of it apart and there are no holes. The knock is VERY VERY quiet. You can really only hear it around and above 3000RPM. So there are no holes yet... I will have an extra 500$ by the end of january because i started my second job a couple weeks ago.

check that out... i put it back together and the wire broke!
