Edit: I mean when 16R was there and for sale. Not in the condition it's in right now in Australia.
i believe they all must be equipped with the proper safety equipment to make them road legal... race cars are not required to have standard road vehicle safety equipment so it is often eliminated to save weight etc.

also things such as exhaust must be changed to comply with emissions regulations and other regulations set for road legal cars...

A brief word direct from Nick Mason on converting the GTR for road use from his book "Into the Red" (highly recommended)

"...we agreed to a deal in which 10R would come to me ready to drive away on the road. This involved an assortment of adjustments, including the addition of reversing lights, catalytic convertors, and silencers - and a horn, not normally a requirement of modern motor racing.

I picked up the car in December 1999. My daughter Holly and I went down to the McLaren facility in Woking to pick it up, and then took it back around the M25 to North London. After juddering out of the workshop it felt perfectly tractable on the road. Later we made a few extra modifications. The rear-view vision was still a little lacking, so we added a cockpit screen and mini cameras to aid parking, and to get the depth of the blue on the flashing lights struggling to keep up..."

One other thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the GTRs rollcage, which I don't believe could be easily removed, is also covered with upholstered bits of foam in the areas where someone's head or body might likely come in contact with it should there be an accident. It may have the heart of a racing car, but you wouldn't want to have to wear a helmet in it all the time of course.

The book is titled "Into the Red - Twenty-two classic cars that shaped a century of motor sport" and it covers some very noteworthy cars from his personal collection.

I got my copy off of Ebay, but I believe if you don't want to play that game that there are also copies available through Amazon.com and other outlets. Make sure you get the right one.

The original version looks like this:

...but did not include his F1 GTR.

The newer version looks like this:

...and does include GTR 10R in the text, as well as on the included audio CD with samples of most of the cars.

There are photos of the pages on 10R (still clickable for their high res versions) in this old thread from when hurst first got his copy.

Black with 10% flake is what 007 has. It's black with silver metallic tossed in. It doesn't show up very well in pictures but does stand out a little in the flesh.

I asked him the same question a few weeks ago actually.

It's a shot of LM3 that has been p-shopped. Here's the original from his gallery.

When I first spotted it, I thought he might have found more pics of #072, but no such luck.

That LM looks HOT!!!!! I just love it. I am not sure I would enjoy it's ride and nose as much as a regular F1's but, boy, it sure screams coolness!

Amazon still picture the original 21 car version, no mention of a "second edition" although they do list the book under a US title as well: "At the Limit: 21 Cars That Shaped a Century of Motor Sport. In the past Amazon here in the US did not carry "Into the Red" meaning that if you wanted the soundtrack you had to order from amazon.co.uk and it looks like that might still apply for the second edition.

You can see that both of those images are being hosted by Amazon - so they must have the new version hiding somewhere.

Search by 'Author' and "Nick Mason" - I think that is how I found it.

Yup. Saw the hosting. Searched on "Nick Mason" (not Manson ) and not there. For some reason it comes up only on the advanced search page. I wouldn't want to be in their db department... unless my "perks" included an F1 of course.
