Re: Why Nissan?
I'm a big 240 fan, but I have respect for any car that can go fast. If there's a Civic that could beat a Skyline ( yeah, right!
) then I would STILL have some respect for the Honda, as much as I would be disappointed. |

Honda is actually a very good car to own, gets good gas milage, cheap to maintain..cant go wrong with an economy car. As far as racing, please dont compair the non performance cars to cars that were ment for the average enthusiest. the Silvia and ITR are very good match ups. Also, the Honda NSX dominates JGTC for your 411, so dont jump on the company for producing cars that dont fit your driving style, because not everyone drives the same way. Its all driver prefrence. I know some very skillfull FWD drivers that pull off lap times quicker than some porsche owners.

Getting a Honda fixed at the garage isn't cheap.
Toyota had it's good years with the Supra and AE86 and the All-Trac Celica, Honda had it's good years with the ITR and CTR, NSXs were pretty damn badass to and even the new S2000 is sweet, Nissan had great years with the GT-Rs, Silvias, Zs, but let's face it, which car company is still in the game? Nissan! They have the SE-R, Altima SE-R soon, Maximas are pretty cool, so are the Murano and Titan. Honda has an ugly ass Accord, weak sauce, white-bread Civic and even weaker CR-V, thank god they still have the S2000. Toyota has the taxi Camry (4 out of 5 taxis in Montreal are Camrys), the even whiter the white bread Corolla (and pathetic attempt at a cool car with the XRS), the ECHO!!! FOR CHRIST SAKE, WHAT AN EXCUSE FOR A CAR!!!! They also have those great "tuner cars" called Scions....what a joke, what a sad, pussy-thetic, joke. And wow they have the Celica! (Crap, except for the GT-S, which is ok but torque-less) Woohoo! They will stop making it next year and will not have anymore "sports" car!! (same for MR-S) So..yeah...and glad I made you laugh. ;-) |

I love the MR2 Spyder. are they really stopping the production on it. I don't know how Toyota plans on competing anymore.

Toyota and Hondas main concern was producing cars to hit the "affordable economy car market" aiming at the public who did not share the same racing or speed thurst as we do in this forum. Toyota is stoping production on the MRS/MR2 because of declined sales...much like Nissan discontinued the 300zx and Silvia due to the fact that sales were low. But that doesnt mean they wont come back. Im very suprised that nissan is still up and running. even a few years back they almost lost their company because they wernt meeting the market standerds. They sure made a comback though with the maxima/altima/sentra.
As far as the market for racers..expect to see a Toyota Supercar as well as a possible rebirth of a Supra. Honda has a few tricks up their sleve. And dont forget Mazda with lots of their engineers are working around the clock perfecting the rotary engine design. I expect to see all companies compete in the GT300/GT500/LEMANS by 2010 |

Re: Why Nissan?
there was speculation a year ago about sending out a 2005 supra with either a 4.7L V8 or a 4.0L V6. and the mr2 hasn't been in canada for years.. i wouldn't be surprised if it left the states..

The Skyline and Supra would b ruined by a V engine, and yeah, we didn't get the new gen MR-2/S.

Re: Why Nissan?
The reason why Nissan was able to stand back up to it's feet was because of Carlos Ghosn. i think he came to japan in '99 from previous jobs at Renault and Michelin. He ignored all traditional japanese business etiquettes by laying off a shit load of people, declining all small business offers, etc, etc... but in the end Nissan projected to have record breaking profits in '01.
this somewhat made him a threat to Japanese traditionalists.... but hey a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do~ Also Carlos was the man who decided to export GTR's and mass produce/market them in the US. I was watching the japanese news a while ago.. and i remember when he said "An amazing car like the GTR shouldn't only be sold here in Japan but also be on the market in neighboring contries...," "it's a waste...." etc... Hence, we are starting to see small glimpse's of GTR concepts that MAY arrive at US shorelines sometime in '07. |

But I agree that a V engine will ruin the Supra and the Skyline. They were known for their bullet proof I-6's. V engines are all that is in the plans for the two cars, so they won't be as special as the existing ones are. No matter how great the new Skyline will be, I would much rather have an R34, R33, or R32.

Re: Why Nissan?
i saw a 4DOOR civic w/ a B16A swap run 15.2 1/4. the engine has 11.0:1 compresion and some other engine work, skunk2 headers/exhaust,highflow cat, theinterior was all taken out, had only the driver light weight racing seat and had drag redial tires...he said he spent $4900 on his engine and power adders. so what S13WANABE is telling me is that had this guy spent $400 more he would have droped an entire second.....???????
