Re: How many Ex-Police Impala Owners are out there? (9C1/9C3)

Well, they're toying with a 5.3L V-8 for '06..... maybe rwd is on the way.

Michigan is a little far for me. I'm in east Ontario... I guess AF is as good a parking lot as any

Hey it was just a thought... Gotta keep this thread rolling... I'm surprised how many Ex-PD's are showing up though. After all i've only seen 3 other Impala's as it in my area.

Re: Re: How many Ex-Police Impala Owners are out there? (9C1/9C3)

I have a favor to ask of anyone with an ex-police new impala ('00 and up). can someone pop there hood and look in front of there radiator and see if they see two or three smaller "radiators" they should look similar, possibly two on the passenger side then one on the driver side, mounted in front of the coolant radiator. I just want to know if the 9c1 and 9c3 came with these or if they were options that the department could add.

1 smaller radiator, its the tranny cooler I believe. It came with the police pkg from factory. Standard option from my knowledge.

well there can be three I just didnt nkow how many were standard. theres a tranny cooler, oil cooler and power steering cooler. I want to go to the dealership and see if they have the tranny cooler so I can put one on my car. and since it comes standard the dealership should have it.

Yeah, the standard one is the tranny cooler, because Police cars drive like hell, or are made to.

Re: How many Ex-Police Impala Owners are out there? (9C1/9C3)

Update on my car, After the transmission replacement at 160,000 miles, *my* repair bill for this car has totaled up to $3,600 roughly. ($2,500 just being the transmission though)

Car should be good to go for quite awhile minus brake pads within the next 10k miles.

A few questions:

What's all special in that "police packaged" Imp?

What's a pushbar bumper?

Are they ungovernered?

well a couple things are different with the police package. heavy duty parts like tranny, radiator, sway bars, basically stronger parts. that and slightly different wiring and extras. and a "pushbar bumper" or push bumper, have you noticed on police in your area that have an "extra" black bumper in front of there front bumper. and yes the speed limiter is removed.

Heavy Duty Transmission, Heavy Duty Radiator, Transmission Cooler, Stiffened Suspension all around, springs, sways etc. Higher output Alternator, and special wiring harnesses to help with adding in the police equipment. Loads of options as well, from litrally dozens of color choices. Interior choices (non-carpet black matte floor for example). Car is also *tuned* to best use the power it has.

And to correct you bigrod, the speed limiter is not removed, just increased. Top speed is 124 MPH as is. GM catalog for the 9C1 will even tell you that Only slightly more than a stock Impala of 115 MPH.

'Pushbar' bigrod explained right. People give it all sorts of names, technically I think its listed as a brush guard.

Re: Re: Re: How many Ex-Police Impala Owners are out there? (9C1/9C3)

Have any Impala ex-police owners out there even seen or heard of a RPO L67 option (supercharger) on governmental/police pre-2004? Supposedly it was available to any law enforcement/police department willing to spend the money on one.

I've searched government auctions and haven't had any luck. It would be a great sleeper.

The regualar impala rims on the civilian models with the hubcaps are the same as the police package impala rims. The only difference is that the civilian rims don't have the three bolt holes for the center caps. You are going to have to do this on your own. The best way to do it is tap the holes so you can thread them into the rim. if you drill a hole and use nuts on the back, your going to run into a problem with the nut and the end of the bolt being to long because of the brake rotor and your tire won't go on evenly. Also when you drill the holes you have to make sure you are even all the way around because if you are not...the center cap is going to be a little off and you are going to get wheel vibration and you can't balance it out because you have to take the center cap off to balance the tire.....just a little heads up....

Police Departments are cheap, there is no reason for one to spend the extra $ on such on option for %99 of the police departments. If they wanted the extra power for pursuit, they would likely just make use of the Crown Vic, which has a higher top end to begin with.

Simply put, I have not heard/seen such a car built.
