Personally...I like a debadged M5. Get some 525i emblems, some 525i wheels and front fascia, and get one exhaust going on. Then when someone tries to race you...they'll feel that 400HP/369 lbs. of torque kick them down. Hehehe.

I am sure there are better ones and probably more fun ones...but I personally like this for its nasty quality while maintaing some luxury.
My tohughts exactly, the M5 has the potential to look like an old ladies car after a few de-modifications.

Debadging is sort of cheating. Sort of. I mean you could do that to all sorts of cars then. I suppose it would be the antithesis of all the ricers out there who "upgrade" their cars with better badges (i.e. SiR Preludes).

Well, even WITH leaving the badges on these following cars, I bet they would fool quite a handful of folk (I think too many people now know what the WRX is to be fooled):

1) Audi S8: not many on the road (or even A8s for that matter) highly sedated appearance, super-lux engine combined with stability of all-wheel-drive equals great harnessable power on the street, which is something uncommon for most heavy full sized sedans.

2) Beetle Turbo S: also not many on the road, may be easily confused with regular beetles, or even standard turbos for that matter.

3) Skyline GT-R! Well, in the U.S. at least. Of course, this would really apply only when the GT-R is accosted by Detroit iron.

Audi S8 - i have one , and mostly riced-out compact drivers don't know what this is... It's also debadged , i thought of putting a 2.8 badge , but this will be too much , and i also have the chrome side mirrors like all S8 , so if someone knows a bit about it will know...

About skyline GT-R , i think that you would have pepole asking about it all the time , and a lot of pepole staring at it , it's not a sleeper , they never see it , but many pepole know about it , and when they see it... I know lamborghini diablo , but i rarely see one , so when i see one i come to take a look at it...
I've got another one - Volvo 960 turbo evolution
that's a funny name for a big old volvo , but it has 320 hp and looks like grandpas car...

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why I pretty much limited the analysis only to the foolhardy ones like the single-minded muscle car lovers out there. You say that people would be asking about it (GT-R) all the time, but they would probably ask what it is more than anything. True, enthusiasts know, but not everyone is one. I work near the Hancock park area and one day on that street there was a 996 Turbo parked near an R34 GT-R. No one really passed much more than a glance at the Nissan, but just about everyone gave a full 90 degree headturn for the Porsche. Those who know, know. But still not too many know. Furthermore, the Skyline's body paneling doesn't look super-exotic or anything. It doesn't have a real sports car shape to it, and that helps it in being misleading. Which is all for the better. Even if one never heard of a Diablo, one look at it would definately insinuate that this car can fly with the bats of hell.

The GT-R would have been an even better sleeper 3 years ago, when VERY little of the American public was aware of its existance. With all the major publications mentioning the name "Skyline" over and over again these days (especially with the coming of the G35, and possible GT-R), people are now in the know.

We should really be limiting this conversation to stock vehicles only. Otherwise, potentially every car could be a sleeper. Even a pinto.

Killed one in my buds E39 M5... i thought it would be harder , or rather the M5 is more than i expected... anyway it was on a unrestricted highway in germany , starting at around 140 to around 220-230 because the traffic was big and you couldn't really kick it...

25 years ago I knew a surveyor with a humble looking early '70s Valiant Ute (Mopar) he used for work, complete with sunvisor, three on the tree gears, builders racks, mudflaps - the whole bit.
Not so good for the autobahn, no handling or brakes, looked about as sporty as a school bus ..

... but his had the very rare triple weber Hemi 6 option and could do genuine 14's (not bad for them days)

the best sleeper???

I pulled up to a red light the other night and some fool in a 4.6 stang
started revving up i just smiled...I have no outside mods besides
some eagle alloys ,he just felt like picking on the apparently slow as
s*%t....to his suprise LOL !!!!

by the way it is a gmc typhoon (truck) and cyclone (suv)
that had supercharged 4.3 liter v-6 and all wheel drive that
would leave sports car owners scratching their heads and saying...
...WTF

exhaust-driven supercharger you mean (turbo) for the Cyclone/Typhoon twins .. but yeah, they were really something - faster to 100mph that a Ferrari according to C&D mag - and a tribute to the lateral thinking that GM is capable of

a gmc syclone had a better 1/4 mile time than the porsche 911 turbo of the same era. of course those of us "in the know" would know better than to pick on one, BUT remove the bodykit and emblems and its just another lowered s-10, thatd be a good sleeper.
