Thanks for the link. Yes, EVERY PART is way to thick. You may want to consider using styrene for the parts that are glued to the body. Looking at the shot from the rear I can see that I'll need to thin out the rear vents. I thought the metal on the 1:1 may have been folded over but as I know see that is not the case. Let me know if you want some reference pics and I'll e-mail them too you.

Re: 1/24 Protar - 1955 Mercedes W196 (Fangio)

WOHOOOO !Lady Luck smiled on me today. I was speaking to my father in law telling him about my engine dilemma and low and behold...he has a unbuilt Revell Classic Mercedes 1955 300 sitting in his closet...so I have my engine for FREE! I told him I would build him the rest of the kit.

So happy! Off to get beer to celebrate.

Yesterdays progress - the parents are coming to visit this weekend so won't be able to work on it until next week.

Vents are way to thick as mentioned earlier

After sanding the plastic down and waiting for putty to dry

Working on smoothing the vents where they meet the body.

Painted cockpit space frame.

Thanks for looking and feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for the comments ! Damn, I wanna keep building this weekend but with the parents in town I don't have time, gotta go golfing. Cool thing is it's going to be gift for my father who just retired and he and mom were over for dinner tonight and he commented on how much he liked it (didn't tell him it was for him). It'll have a plaque and a diorama around it when it's done to commemorate his retirement.
