I have the ever popular HKS 264/272 cam combo in my GSX. The numbers refer to the lift duration in degrees. I feel this is one of the best street cam set-ups for the DSM. Many people have opted to go the 272/272 route, but I feel this is better suited for track pnly cars and people who do not mind haveing crappy gas mileage.
The 264/272 combo sounds really nice at idle and they pull hard all the way to red-line. I am currently researching Cam gears so I can further tune for more power, I am leaning towards the Fidanza gears because they use 5 bolts to keep the gear from slipping as opposed to the HKS gears that use only 3. If you are going to be changing cams, then I would suggest changing the Timing belt to the Power Enterprises belt for some extra protection, and while you have the front cover off, then remove the balance shafts, for some extra performance and even more protection for the Timimng belt. If you keep adding parts at this rate and with some tuning, s2k's are not going to be much of a challenge. You will be looking for cars that say R/T 10 and Z-06 on the side. Have fun and good luck with the build.

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
It's not really loud, it just makes a noise like on f and f but not that loud. It just sounded different and i was wondering if it should.

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
Well if it is like the sound on F&F, so kinda like clunk clunk when shifting, then I believe it is the symbroskit shift kit. I think that is what F&F used, unless that was comp. genterated also

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
That noise might be your blow off valve. If it sounds like a vacuum or a psstttt, then its your BOV.
Here's a link to a BOV sound. You can hear it as he shifts: http://www.3sxperformance.com/audio/...eby_Inside.mp3 Also as far as cams and internals...may I suggest you read up and learn more about your car before you continue all of this modding. It's your car so do what you want. But I think it would be more beneficial and enjoyable to you, to learn what all is going on with all of these mods and your car. Just my .02

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
I wouldn't do cams until I was building the lower end... which means making serious power. Also, you need to learn how to tune because your mechanic isn't going to prevent your car from exploding when your $3000 dollars in mods don't even run well.
Take a look at a mod list and finish the beginning stuff before you go about things the wrong way. Cams aren't something you jump into even if you DO have way too much money. |

Re: Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
go and race the s200 youll reap him,, there not as fast as there craqcked up to be, my boy has a turbo 240sx(ka24de) and he rapes s2000 all day long. a gsx with intake and exhaust and 16psi of boost will eat a s2000 no problem even with intake and exhaust, rember ur turbo you see at least +20hp with intake and exhause the s2000 will only see +10hp at best.. so dont worrie jus practice launghing adn you'll be fine.. hsit if i can mess wid s2000 in a turbo probe boosting 10psi you can definatly rape them..

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
Well, i want new cams. Tell how to choose them wagon, or tell me how to start modding the lower end. I want to have the fastest car around, so i need to know what to do. Money is not really an object, so tell me what to get or give me a mod list cause i wanna pump out some serious horses. What about nitrous?

One more thing, how does taking off the balance shafts give it more power?

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
I would follow one of the upgrade paths on dsmtuners.com or rre or dsmparts.com. once you have those completely exhausted, then look into building the bottom end. hell if money is no object just order a stage 3 6 bolt and port and polish a 1g head. But before you even contemplate things like cams and gears and bottom end, make sure you're to that point. one you've built up to the max you can push on the stock bottom end (around 400 hp) then start with that and your cams. you've got a long ass way to go before you need to worry about stuff like that. and depending on where you live.. once you get to 400 turbo'd horseys... you WILL be the fastest car around!

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust
Seriously, go in order on a mod list and do some research. If you do everything someone tells you, you'll be unhappy and unexperienced. Here's about 600whp or whatever.
Block- SlowBoyRacing Stage III block -2600 SlowBoyRacing Stage V head - 1800 lifters, rockers, HKS 272 cams, kevlar timing belt, arp. Turbo/exhaust- FP Red, nice manifold, Tial 46mm, tubular o2 housing, RRE downpipe, whatever catback, test pipe. Intake/FMIC- SBR race FMIC 2g kit, Tial BOV, 3.5'' GM MAFT, MAFt, whatever intake pipe, big ass K&N, magnus SM IM Fuel- 950's, supra pump, FPR, dsmlink Other- Profec-bII (or any other BC), gauges, ACT2900, Shep racing tranny, 4 spider center diff, random driveline BS, MSD DIS-2, Also you'll need: 300-500 random misc parts, backup parts car, reality. |
