Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

Great work on the Porsche Eric. With the Red/Blue A/N fittings, try the ones from this guy in America, he's quite brilliant and has just introduced anodised range. Keep up the excellent work, following with great interest.

Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

Thanks guys.

The engine is now complete. Added more fuel lines, vacuum lines from the fuel pressure regulators (at least I think that's what they are), and from each intake. The vacuum lines converge at the black cap on top of the engine. As it get's installed to the chassis there will likely be more cable ties and minor details, touch ups, etc., added.

Thanks for looking...

Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

Another quick update.

(I realized after my last post that the engine is not quite complete. I still need to add the wires to the individual green fuel injectors.)

I've made some progress on the chassis. Having previously added all the rivets and primed all the parts I moved ahead and sprayed all the parts with flat aluminum then using various brushes and cloth I polished all the parts with Rub-N-Buff Silver Leaf paste and polished to a shine. Overall I'm happy with the results but unhappy with the fact that the reflectivity really shows the pitting and ruff finish of the white metal parts. (The photos make it look worse). Thankfully a lot of this in not as visible on the completed model.

The chassis partly assembled.

Foot pedals added.

Front suspension and steering rack added.

Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

Wow Eric - you really must have patience to do all that rivet work.
It does look good though better than from MFH cast in rivets.

It is a shame about the pitting of the aluminum sheets.
could that be filled and made flat before painting? just asking.

Front suspension is coming together nicely.
Are the gold colored suspension bits painted or is that the MFH color?

Doing excellent Eric - I'll keep watching with anticipation.

Cheers
John

Thanks guys.

John, they varied in color on the real cars. In my research I've seen black, silver and gold or combinations of those colors. However, the majority seemed to be gold. Gold is also the color called out by MFH. I chose gold based on my research. I have used very few colors called out by MFH. Shades of those colors maybe but very few actual colors they call for.

I think those rivets worked out quite well. They looked a little off at first, but after the paint I think they look great. Much better than leaving it the way it was.

It's all looking great, Eric: a big thumbs-up from me! It'll be a pleasure seeing the rest of this one coming together. Good stuff.

Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

Thanks guys...

I was able to get some work done on the front brakes over the weekend.

First thing I did was remove the molded in wheel locator studs and drill holes for new studs to be added. Those are the brake pads in the background.

Then added the new studs, sanded the rotors to give a worn look. There were a few gouges in the rotors I couldn't remove without significant grinding but for the most part the sanding marks indicate the direction of travel on the rotors. I also assembled the rotor and painted the edge a darker metallic color. The calipers were painted flat black then dry brushed with dark grey metalizer and the brake pads were painted and added.

The spindle was mounted to the suspension and the rotor and calipers were mounted to the spindle.

All the other hardware added. The brake pad clip and screw to hold it in place, the bleeder valves and brake line connections, etc. Bleeder valves are from RBMotion.

I still need to get everything plumbed and wired.

Each posting is illustrating just what can be done with one of these MFH kits in the hands of a master - Stunning Eric - just stunning

Re: MFH 1/12 Porsche 956 Short Tail Ver. 'B'

A small update. I've not worked on the model in a couple weeks but spent some time working on the 956 this weekend.

Front bulkhead, support bars, tow hook and brake/Windshield washer fluid reservoirs added. The reservoirs still need to be plumbed and wired.

Started working on the radiators. They are hollow and when the photoetched radiator faces are added you can see all the way through. I didn't like this so I added sheet plastic inside (two are done, the others still need to be done) and will paint the inside black before adding the faces.

Started working on the tank which goes together in two halves. Looking at the real car it appears to be two halves with a lid all welded together. After assembly I added 'weld' lines by gluing thin solder wire over the seams where the kit parts glue together. Once set I used the knurled surface of my pin-vise and rolled it over the solder allowing the pattern of the knurled surface to press into the soft solder. Once primed, painted with metalizer and polished out/weathered a little it should look decent. I did the same thing for the fuel filler tubes as well.

I also mated the engine to the monocoque. Added the fuel injector wiring harnesses, additional plumbing and over-coated all the anodized fittings with flat clear paint to tone them down a little. I still need to add the throttle linkage on one side and throttle position sensor on the other along with the associated wiring. You can also see the fuel filler tubes in place. I don't know if the weld seams on the filler tubes are accurate for this car or not. Random pics of real cars had them sometimes and had smooth tubes at other times. I liked the look and think the effect will be nice on the finished model.
