Ok, to legalize a JDM car you have to do two things, 1) Convert to OBDII. I know Motorex charges $25,000 for this but I wonder what it would cost me to have my friend (a mechanic) do it. He wouldn't try to squeeze every possive penny out of me for it, like Motorex. 2) You have to present crash test data in order to register the car. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I called Nissan Japan but their automated answering system is all in JAPANESE! DUH! It was stupid for me to try. I think all I have to do is figure out the equivilent of the NHTSA in Japan and then contact them somhow (I don't speak Japanese) and have them e-mail or fax it to me. Screw Motorex...I'll figure this shit out on my own....hopefully. I sure as hell will not pay $95,500 for a $58,000 car!

If anybody knows what the Japanese equivilent of the NHTSA in Japan, Please e-mail or PM me!

Didn't I cover this with you in our PM conversation? Nissan doesn't have the crash test data, Motorex does.

Where do you think Motorex got this information? I doubt they crash tested skylines themselves. Like I said before, If you can find the equivilent of the NHTSA in Japan, then you can obtain crash test data from them. That's probably exactly what Motorex did.

Wrong. A company hired by Motorex did the crash testing, that is part of the reason for their prices. Read their FAQ.

Regardless, I'm going to try to find out if there is a Japanese equivilent of the NHTSA. Nissan doesn't have an automated answering thing in english but Honda does. They open in 5 minutes and I'm going to call them to try and find out.

What good does it do? There is no DOT crash test data other than Motorex's.

Even if you do call the Japanese equivalent of the NHTSA and get their crash test data, it won't help much. The reason is that your data would be from a test carried out in Japan, not the US. The chances of crash standards being the same for both countries are virtually nil. Even if standards were the same, the US folks would probably want to do their own tests anyway.

denso: even if crash tests for the skyline exists in japan, dont you think motorex would have found it and used it instead of paying an independant contractor hundreds of thousands to crash test skylines the the US's standards? my point is, the data does not exist because nissan has/had zero plans to import the skyline. thats why motorex had to be pioneers and create their OWN data, and thats why their prices are so high. and they own the rights to this crash test info, the rights they payed so dearly for, so if you want your own then either hire a contractor for hundreds of thousands or try and buy the data from motorex. have fun
