I don't celebrate Halloween...mostly for religious reasons...but my fiance and I spent a nice evening out at a coffee shop with another friend talking about the next projects we want to do for our cars

I am a born-again Chrisitian. It's not strict like "OMG Halloween is bad..your gonna go to hell if you are trick or treating". For most of the population it is a day to dress up and eat candy, which is fine, but for a small portion (people in cults or other religions) it has a whole different meaning...and there are alot of things going on there that I do not agree with.

I do not want to start a big huge flame war on what's right or not, I just don't participate in it for my own personal reasons and am not going to criticize those who do

I also don't agree with some of it, but I did go trick or treating when I was younger. I didn't know what was going on, it was just a day to get free candy from people for me. I went as big bird when I was 4. I had the yellow tights, feather suit, and mask...

what's wrong with taking part in trick or treating which is harmless??! if you take part in the cult things, then you're messed up. The people in cults don't go trick or treating, so you're not being like them. I have nothing against you not taking part in it, i'm just wondering why not... cause i see churches giving out candy on halloween, so aint nothin wrong with that. If it was that bad then churches wouldn't give out candy
Would it hurt that much to give out some candy for little kids?
not like you're supporting cults doing that... you're just making people happy, which is a good part of religion

Neither of us said trick or treating is bad, and I did it myself. My church gives out candy. The regualr activities like that are harmless, it's just what the whole holiday has come to mean that I'm against

I never did do the trick or treating as a kid (religion + strict father ...nuther story there) and my family never participated in handing out candy...just the way I grew up. Over the last few years I haven't been home to pass out stuff anyways. One church I did go to years ago passed out candy and had a funhouse thing going on which was cool. My current church doesn't even do that.

My church holds a games night and has pizza and stuff as an alternative to trick or treating for the kids. I think it's great.

How did your father handle not passing out candy? All these hopeful little kids come to your door asking for candy..."No!"

Basically what they do around where I live is wait for anyone, and I mean anyone, to come through the neighborhood. Then those people become victims of eggs. Sometimes it can get pretty wicked. I just don't want them hitting my car with an egg, I would kill them on that note.
