It idles fine when I start it. Had it going yesterday for a little bit. Idle is just in the 700-850 mark. When I rev, it does that fine. When rpms drop back down, it goes really low to the point about to die, or will die. But starts right back up. I was actually thinking about driving it a little and boost the shit out of it and see what happens, but keepin it close to home.

Never done a leak down. How do I do that? I don't have a leak at the IM for sure, Bri.

I want to start tearing it apart this weekend, but wondering what I should do. Pull the pistons and check all the rings? The valves are fine. New Headgasket?

a leak down test is when you put the tested cylinder at TDC and pressize it to 150psi or so and listen for leaks. If it leaks out the intake the intake valve isint sealing. If you hear air coming out the oil cap then it could be the rings

Started the tear down last night. Got some good progress. Just have to drain the fluids and take off the exhaust manifold.



Wanted to get all that done this weekend. But it's going from 65 today, to 30s this weekend with 2" of snow. Lame.

But will pop off the head. Pull the pistons. Check the rings. Redo if need be. And see what else is gonig on in there. The valve cover did not seal at all. Oil all over the place. Will be taking off to

I'l going to block off the IAC on the throttle body, as well as the one tube that goes to the charcoal canister. I pulled the EGR valve and all hoses and everything with relating to emissions. Found the law saying that all 95 and earlier cars dont have to take the test in IL and most other states. So that shit is all gone.

Little update. Head is pulled off. So far everything looks good. Ordered new rings and a ring grinder. Will pull the pistons and throw on the new rings. Trying to find out when my machine shop is open to check the head for flatness.

Head didn't seat properly along the timing belt. Even though it had one of the highest compression, that's where it was leaking on down the back.


Cleaned off the top 2, still like new


Valves all look good as well


Head gasket is NOT blown


Found out why my shifter has been soft going into 2,4, and R. Part of the linkage cable popped out from this sleeve thing. So got to fix that

If you replace the rings you have to hone the cylinders out

Was watching the vids, seems easy enough. What if there's still the cross-hatching on the walls yet? Is the honing still neccessary? Or is it anytime the rings get replaced it HAS to be done?

And when it's all back together I had to diable the WG again and do those pulls again right? I think I'll do that longer this time around.

You must hone the cylinders everytime you change the rings. If you remember when you got it back from the machine shop last time you could feel the crosshatching in the cylinders. This is what files the rings slightly causing them to seat. Even tho you can see the crosshatching its not rough enough to seat the rings. This roughness wears off in the first few miles thats why its important to seat the rings quick when you first start a motor.

Went to a local performance shop's open house tonight and my buddies built up some huge hype about my car, so now everyone wants to see it run lol. Damn. I talked to the owner about a small 4 or 6 point cage so I can go with the racing seats and a harness, and they have a guy. So I'll be talking to them more. Very knowledgeable people. They also run an AutoX that happens nearly every weekend in the summer... I'm there.

I got my rings in today... or should I say ring. Website didn't say, and I probably should have connected the 2, that the price I paid was literally for only 1 piston. So now I have to order 3 more. Plus my ring grinder is on back-order.

There's a 1G Talon in that first row in front of the Audi station, that it's suck a hack job, that they're sending it back to the owner so they can't be held liable if anything happens.
