Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Figured I do an update since haven't had one in awhile.

Hit ~140 miles on the new motor. Slowly but surely adding more. A good 30 of those miles were just this weekend. I still really haven't taken her long distances yet. Still a little nervous with her yet. I need to get over that. I for sure HAVE to change the oil this weekend. Already picked up all materials so it's going to happen.

The battery was totally dead last week from the last time I was trying to start it it wouldn't crank. I ended up taking a torch to the starter and it cranked fine, but sadly the battery was too low already. Finally just bought a battery charger and got it up and running again on Saturday. The upper radiator hose decided to start leaking so fixed that. She's been running good though.

I tried the 4-squirt setting that Jason has been playing with and was unhappy with the results so switched back to 2. I've been logging everything and adjusting the map, but it seems as if the AEM EUGO and MS are not on the same page yet. And this causing some issues with the maps being too rich most of the time. Getting 12.5afrs at idle, but got some good numbers elsewhere. Cold starts are doing ok, running a little lean when warming up, but if I shut it off and restart, she'll be fine then. Any ideas on that Jay?

As for boost, I've been giving her most boost when I can. I haven't hit above 5psi (according to the logs) but she pulls great. Takes a little bit of time, but when the thing builds boost the tires keep breaking free. Ground/tires are cold and lack of tread kind of kills it. Haven't blown off any IC pipes or anything else so it seems to be holding up good. I think I have an exhaust leak somewhere because I can smell it pretty badly inside the car when boosting, so going to check that out this weekend too.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Finally stole the pics from my parents from when I did the swap, so I'll add those up. Other than that, the SFMU is leaking fuel and car hasn't moved in a while. Just working on Grand Am lately.

Rolling Out

Prepping

New clutch & the old

Flat Black paint

Motor up

MEEE!!! "I did that!"

Going in

Bird's-Eye View. I think the clamps broke soon afterward

Finally In

Checking timing... still dead on

How the night ended

2 days later!

Sexy stuff man. After you get her running top notch, drop it, throw on some 18's (or better), get the body straight, and squirt some new paint on there. She'll be sexxxxx

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Thanks. I decided I'm going to use my old Enkei's that I have. Just have to get new rubbers for them. Then a ~2in drop all around with some stiff springs, full camber kit and front brake upgrade... all be done by this summer. I'm also hoping to get some larger wheels with some near-slicks for the front for strictly track use. But not really needed at the moment.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

If you want a cheaper tire that performs well, I have nothing but good to say about the federal 595's. I ran them on the eclipse and the neon, and they handle awesome, and they are sticky! They look good and they are cheap. They are soft though, so if you spin them a whole lot, you will know it.

These are the street version that I have run:
http://www.federaltire.com/en/html/p...&pdline=1&ID=1

Then this is a more competition version that I have yet to use, but also cheap:
http://www.federaltire.com/en/html/p...&pdline=3&ID=3

I think I am going to go with the 595's on the back, then run the 595RS-R's on the front.

Looks good man, Fram oil filter FTL tho. Where is the SFMU leaking at? Has to be one of the fittings.

To me, an oil filter is an oil filter. I like frams because they have the grip. Basically all I use on my cars.

Ya it's the bottom fittings. Don't understand why though considering it's all tefloned and bolted up good. Actually going out there in an hour or so to look at it.

There is plenty of threads like this out there. Some have said that they have taken used Frams apart and the inside is just destroyed.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

I too dont like Frams, but I'm just a brand whore. I used Purolator Pure One's (yea the ugly mustard colored ones) on basically all my cars. They are relatively cheap and 99.9% filtering efficiency. On my red car though, I usually buy the Mobil One oil cange special and it comes with the Mobil One filter.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

When I do my oil change (needs to be done NOW) I'll switch it up then. I just enjoy the convenience of the grips. Makes it so much easier to get off.

I attempted to fix the fuel leak on Sunday and was hoping to start it last night. Battery was dead though. So that's charged. If it doesn't leak and I can get the WB working right on MS I'll be driving this car all weekend (assuming no snow).

Its trial and error on the WB settings, I just started with the top one and tested all of them then picked the closest one. Mine is almost dead on.
