Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Today went to the car with some new settings specific for the 750s. After doing some other work suck as installing a new ground off the battery I cranked it and she fired right up. Not only that but she warmed up great as well. It took me by surprise as its only 27 and snowing badly here. Idle is a little high and running rich but wont play with that until I reconnect the WG. Im excited.

Awesome Dave. Were did you get that map from? I would like to try it out. Maybe it will help my cold starts out. It will warmup fine but takes a few starts before it will catch.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Today I put over 15 miles on the car. Its running and its running great. I did all the WOT runs from idle to 4000rpm and been braking using the engine all day. The car is feeling great. Didn't go over about 5,200rpm. I took a lot of logs with MS and let the Analyzer do the fuel. I reconnected the WG spring and drove some more, making sure not to boost. The car ran better then. The turbo does sound pretty sweet. It seems like its going to take some time to build boost. But it has a nice little kick to it, even still in vacuum. I then washed her up.

Problems:
-Idle is about 1500rpm which is way too much.
-Fuel still a little rich at idle
-Oil leak off valve cover still
-Small exhaust leak off of WG pipe

But other than that, it's running great.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

I'm always thinking of giving up on this thing

I really do wish it was warmer though so I can finish her up. I want to get those little leaks fixed pretty quickly and figure out the idle. Been told possible vacuum leak so I'll go through all of those and see what's going on. Still have to clean up the inside... MS is on the floor, wires are all over the place, panels are missing... it's messy.

Like I said I'm hoping to add more miles on it this week, so I'll be running it a little more. I want it to start seeing some boost. I'll be logging every trip and adjusting fuel between runs. But it's supposed to snow, rain and be cold all this week, so we'll see how much it actually gets driven. I kept the battery connected to the car this time so we'll see if that will be dead when I get back to it. If not, the car comes back home until the Grand Am is finished. Side note, Grand Am's head is at the machine shop today.

Only pic I got was car at the car wash. Got one covered in soap too, but it's pink soap so it looks gay... and my car is not gay

My car is a girl, so she does take it. And there's only pic of of me ever humping her haha.

For some reason the turbo is not building boost. It gets right out of vacuum and then stops. Gauge shows ~0psi, MS logged it maxes out at ~1.1psi. I checked the turbo and WG when I got home last night and everything seems fine. Really don't understand what the problem could be.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

I think the yearly, Winter Battery Fail is over with. Every year, I would always have to jump the car when it started getting cold, even with new batteries it would still fail. But with the new battery and new alternator, the thing has been charging and starting fine.

Last night the car was an ice cube. Encased in about 0.35" of ice. Loaded some new starting settings because the car was a little lean during warmup. The car turned right over. Couple nights before, car took 8 times before she would hold her idle. Yesterday took only 3. I had new throttle settings and thing would almost die when revving, still acting lean... so still have some work there. Temp was ~27* last night and was snowing/raining. I'm going to get this thing to start up perfect when cold before the winter is out.

Plus, the coolant temp is looking much better now, but still using the MAT for the starting settings.

Didn't have a chance to work on the boost issue yet. Hopefully this weekend though. Car may head back to the garage for that.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

Finally hit 50miles today. Looking good from what I see. I just changed the AFR table. For some reason had a bunch of 10/11afrs at around the 3500rpm mark on a couple rows. For sure why the car was running so rich. Havent loaded that into the car yet. But I bet that helps out some.

As for the starting this morning, I forgot to log it. Took a while again. Running great while idling still, but if I touch the gas it would lean up and almost die. Have to wait until the temps reach ~140*. It also feels like it's taking awhile for something to kick in. Like once the car actually idles, it'll sit there being all rough for a little bit, then something kicks in and idle goes fine. Probably the warmup kicking in. Im going to log it later once the car cools down.

Blew off the IC coupler again off the turbo at 4psi. Replaced that it's taking a long time for it to build boost.... sadly its snowing badly and cold so I can't work on it today. But I'm about 99% sure that there's a leak at a coupler.

Re: david-b's 95 Eagle Talon ESi-T Motor Build

I'm working on trying to get a video of this thing actually running, but each time something happens. And quite frankly, it's too damn cold to get anything done.

Last Sunday I believe, it was the oil feed line decided to get screwed up and spray oil all over the engine bay, causing it to smoke up the entire car, including the inside. Didn't have tools with me but made it home with it happening once more. This happened after cruising at ~3psi on a short piece of expressway for a little. Everything needs a good whipe down now.

The WG flange to the manifold is still leaking. After using gasket sealer and Liquid Weld, it still keeps blowing it out. Tonight, I'm taking the car to the garage and just welding it together. If the time comes when I need to seperate the 2, I'll just cut off the flange and weld on the pipe so then I can at least position it better. This exhaust leak has actually gotten so bad, it's screwing up my idle and AFRs, causing me not being able to tune properly.

When there are no exhaust leaks, the car runs great though. I had that idle problem before it was bouncy and fluctuating pretty badly, but I've since changed MegaSquirt to base the throttle off the MAP instead of the TPS, and have gotten much better results. She purrs nicely with that.

For cold starts, I'm using some settings from a neon with 750s. Before it was taking 10-20 cranks before she would start and idle properly... last night with a temp of 17*, took 2 tries and started right up

Last but not least, my PS and Alt locked up the other day, and hoping it's just that the belts are too tight. I'll be working on that today as well. It's only happened twice, but that's 2 times too many.

I've haven't hit anything about 5psi. Mostly because my tires won't hook up... ever. Ground has been wet from all the snow and rain. Plus my tires suck. Pretty badly apparently. I'm waiting for all the little problems to be worked out and then take it on the expressway and give it a little boost.

Oh, and my driver door lock no longer will work with my key. WTF!

I think that's about it. Got to get all the little things fixed by tomorrow since I'm driving all over the city for NYE.
