Re: Another Super 7

I made an asbestos insulator wrap for the header. I mixed a light metallic gray color and painted the tape to replicate the color of a brand I found that offers it in two inch and one inch widths.

Re: Another Super 7

I finished the header and collector, also added the mounting hardware and springs. The outermost two fasteners on the flange are studs with washers and bolts, the rest are just bolts with washers. I find it easier to install headers when they can be hung from a couple studs off the head. I also added a little dirt to the wrapping.

The cam cover fins were cut with a 1/4 inch end mill. Since it is a stepped design, almost any size end mill could be used. But the pockets for the mounting bolts were done with a 1/16 inch end mill.
Sorry for the late reply and many thanks! Isn't resin great to mill...I love the fact the tools stay sharp!

The insulation wrap looks 1:1 perfect too - identical to what I use on my cars. What do you use for it?

Re: Another Super 7

The wrap is made from cloth tape. I had to look through several brands at several stores before I decided to try this product from CVS pharmacy. CVS brand "Cloth Tape". I don't know what the U.K. equivalent would be.

Re: Another Super 7

I bolted the adaptor for the muffler to the collector and installed the gasket.

Re: Another Super 7

Time to mount the trans to the bellhousing. I beefed up the connection with brass rod and tubing (inside the trans).

Re: Another Super 7

I discovered a way to “scratch-build” some fine detailing wire. I made this 0.005 diameter “wire” from Schedule C PVC sprinkler pipe on my lathe. I also made some 0.009 diameter. That comes out about 18 & 20 gauge wire in 1/12 scale. It can be painted or dyed with sharpie or hi-lighter pen.

Re: Another Super 7

Mark, superb work and craftsmanship man, absolutely stunning really.
That header wrap looks almost too good....you sure you didn't slip in a pic of your real build?

And man, that detail wire you made, that is seriously tiny in diameter, that's just kool.
Still loving the whole build, build on!

Thanks a lot Greg!

Fuel tank. Yes, even the wire is scratch-built…

Re: Another Super 7

Tire iron. Mostly brass, aluminum for the bit. Yes, it fits the lugs and functions as a real wrench.

It’s a small one, only a foot long.

Re: Another Super 7

I decided to “brand” the tire iron…

This is the finished rear end. A bit of dirt and grime ready to be installed into the frame…

Fantastic stuff, the details are amazing!
What did you use to texture the rear end?
Cheers

Thanks Glenn. I used talc, same for the texture on the trans and engine block.

Oil tank and mounting assembly. Tank is aluminum, mount is brass.
