Re: Audi R8
Very quick update.
Lost my PE saw blades for a few days and other things kept me away from the desk so I haven't been able to do very much lately. Still going to try and finish it during the weekend though. Before: ![]() Grills installed: ![]() ![]() Bigger update next time.

Re: Audi R8
Nice job so far
However, those aftermarket items ... here the etched parts: it shows, that the aftermarket companys have lots of unnecessary items among their etched parts, like this one: 99,9% of all built Audi R8 will have closed doors, so who will see it later ?

. I'd much rather I get those details considering some PE sets cost the same as one kit. Plus it gives you the choice to open doors etc or not.Thank you everyone for the comments!

Re: Audi R8
PE pedals vs kit pedals
![]() Worked on hood hinges/rods. They're a little too big in diameter but these are the smallest I could get my hands on. I tried to drill into the brass rod but my drill bits didn't quite bite and I thought it would be a nightmare to get them dead straight just by hand. Drilled holes into engine bay ![]() Pivot points on hood ![]() Piston breakdown. Made using 1mm brass rod and a 2mm aluminium tube. Top of tubing was pinched in pliers to flatten the end allowing me to drill into it. Pin connecting it to the hood is capped off with a small piece of shrink tubing. ![]() Together. The bottom, bent bit hooks through the engine bay holes so they won't be visible. ![]() Don't have pictures of it all mounted yet because I'll need three hands to take the picture ![]() Working on painting the interior now.

Re: Audi R8
Hey guys,
Since getting back to uni, coursework and preparing for exams has taken over all my time. Only recently I've had a few hours to get something done so I'd like to post a small update of progress so far. Interior is pretty much done now. ![]() Engine is also 'complete' as I've lost the airbox thingy that sits ontop of the engine . So I've lightly smoked the rear windscreen to help draw less attention to the missing piece. SMS CF decal applied to engine bay. You can also see the assembled hood hinges.![]() CF fuel filler ![]() The Alclad on the side blades is also slightly wearing away due to handling so I'll be touching that up as a final step. ![]() Side windows are also very bad fitting. I've only really got the brakes and wheels to put on then hopefully I can call it complete. It seems there's always something that goes wrong in my builds It's very demotivating and now I just want to finish this off as soon as possible. Thanks for your interest.

Re: Audi R8
I know how you feel, with so much school work and I mean 4 assignment due in the space of 2-3 days and also an exam, all my modelling has lost a modeller to complete!
The R8 is looking really good. It's a pity about the lost airbox!

[quote=KevHw;6323605]Hi alviga69,
The glue I use is this: ![]() I drag a thin strip to the bottom edge of the blade ![]() Then put it in place on the grooves on the grill. While it sets I have to support it, making sure it sets straight and perpendicular. Once it's dry the glue has a sufficiently strong enough bond but means I can only work with one blade at a time. Photo below only shows how it looks after the glue has dried. ![]() /quote] |
