Re: MOTY 2009 Entries

Impressive list of entries. I have the impression that the overall level is higher than last year. Sure as hell difficult to pick a winner...

oh - and a happy new year to all of you!

Re: MOTY 2009 Entries

Votes are coming in, but very small amount of people have voted so far.
If you thinking of casting the vote, there is slightly more than 1 week left.
We already have a clear leader though :-)

You don't answer to the "vote pm's", do you? Just curious since I already voted...

They most definitely read it! I just received a PM concerning my votes. Somehow I mixed up number and description
Excellent attention to detail, guys!
Thank you very much for pointing it out.

May the best win...

Re: MOTY 2009 Entries

I think what we should do for next year is:

Make it so you can't put more pictures into one picture. I think it really doesn't make it fair for the people that can't do it or don't know how to. I think it gives a slight advantage to people who have more than one picture. But its just my opinion.

I like that idea as well. I can do it but admittedly I'm lazy. I mean hell, it takes me months to build one model! Now you want me to manipulate all kinds of pictures? Nope can't, won't do it!

Why don't we go the whole way? Simply post a photo of the parts still on the sprue in the box? That way one modeler won't have any advantage over another if, for example, he happens to be able to build cleaner or lay a better clear coat....

I agree with Steven, that is just absurd.
If you don't know how to - learn it. Its not rocket science and tools to do it available on every computer.

That's fine and good Alex, but some people may not have the programs required to do it. Now we're basing the merits of the model on photography as well. Granted, that a well taken photo certainly does help.

Both options have good and bad points.

I'm simply going to keep doing it the way I always have, not a big deal to me. Besides, I'd rather spend what little time I have building instead of trying to precisely layer my images over one another for the perfect shot of all things. That's just me.
It seems a bit brash for you to paint everyone in the "learn it" mode.

Re: MOTY 2009 Entries

Well Im not trying to complicate things but here's just some opinions of mine.

Im thinking since the issue is that whether is it fair for people who has the knowledge to layer pictures to just one pictures, why not then just let more pictures to be added then but restrict to maybe 3? Its sometimes really hard to show off the hardwork we have put in, in just one picture.

I also believe even if we have to restrict people from layering several shots, the bottom line is that, those who great photography techniques, will still bring the best out of their car, better than those who just point and shoot, which still boils down to better advantage for them. So, I would like to suggest another very simple way and that is maybe to insert the link of their WIP or completed works with the one picture of completed model? This not only will let voters have better judgement for the build and effort, but it will also let voters look and enjoy more pictures of the build or even just completed work before deciding who to vote for. For me, the effort/technique/process for building models worth 50 percent and how it finally turned out worth another 50 percent, thus to me this makes a better and fairer competition.

But again, Im not trying to complicate things, because anyway I treat MOTY just like a year end celebration event where we would gather our most satisfied build to share with everybody. Im happy and fine with how things are now.

Re: MOTY 2009 Entries

Bit of a pointless discussion, really.

a) the rules were set up and know before the comp started. The time to have had the discussion was then - not now. For example, I personally think that not linking to the WIP is a big shame. None the less, that was the final decision and I was free to join the comp or not - nobody made me.

b) Whatever you try and come up with, you are never going to be able to level the playing field - not that it's even worth trying. Why on earth is limiting type of photography more fair than dividing detailed builds from OOB builds? Full engine builds from curbsides? Airbrushed paint vs spray cans??? etc etc

c) As Alex says, composite photos are so common and easy to put together (if you like them) there is no realistic barrier to anyone doing it. So instead of trying to ban 'em, join 'em if you want to!

d) Lastly but not least, I'm willing to bet a tube of Tamiya putty that there is a strong probability that the 2009 winning model will be one that was entered with a non-composite photo. If that is the case, it will rather take the bottom out of the whole discussion, won't it?

If we still want to have the discussion, may I just suggest that let's leave this thread to simply congratulate the entrants and enjoy the competition as it is and park the "how to do it next year" discussion in a separate thread? How about that?
