Re: The Original Shark - Tamiya BMW ///M635 CSi
No, no, 2K means 2 Komponent, or 2-part clearcoat. You need to mix it from 2 parts - clear and hardener, hence the 2K name. It can be any brand.

Re: The Original Shark - Tamiya BMW ///M635 CSi
Hey Alex, great start on your Beamer! Was that 2k by chance the Napa Auto Parts stuff? I've noticed they have a nice selection of commercial quality auto paint product under the "Martin Seymour" brand at reasonable prices but haven't tried them yet (I have a 50 year supply of DuPont at the rate I build).

Re: The Original Shark - Tamiya BMW ///M635 CSi
I do love this car. It is indisputably well designed, aesthetically that is, though I still prefer the 507 or the 2002.
Nevertheless, I can't wait to see more, Alex. I built the Fujimi version several years ago when I was still very much a neophyte. Talk about a trial by fire. |

I would like to thank Alex for his incredibly talented artistic built. If I had to choose between this model and the real thing I can't say what I would had done :-) John |

Re: The Original Shark - Tamiya BMW ///M635 CSi
The time has come to update this thread. Actually, update and complete. I'm on a mission to clean up my bench before the new year, and I have way too many projects started! I'm not going to go into detail over the building process to save time, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask here.
After painting, I BMF'ed window trim all around. Side windows were the trickiest of all, but they just wouldn't look right if painted. ![]() ![]() ![]() Most chtome parts were stripped, because chrome quality was far from perfect, it was scratched, plus I was modifying parts anyway: ![]() Wheels were rebuilt using parts from S27 set, I also scratchbuilt attachments similar to tamiya system, added valves, weights, nuts, and BBS decals from spares box. ![]() ![]() Bumpers were painted and covered with BMF, other small parts sorted by color, and painted. ![]() ![]() Interior tub, seats and dash were assembled, cleaned, sanded, puttied, then primed and painted. ![]() I then flocked interior floor (Detail Master), added seatbelts (Hobby Design hardware), few scratchbuilt and S27 bits, and detail painted the rest. ![]() ![]() Dash was painted, detailed, etc. I used gauge decal from Fujimi kit, as Tamiya provided none! ![]() Completed interior: ![]() ![]() Rebuilt shocks/coils: ![]() Brakes: ![]() Radiator, exhausts, manifolds: ![]() Engine block and intake put together and detail painted. most of the wiring and plumbing will be done once installed: ![]() Completed chassis and suspension detail: ![]() ![]() ![]() Checking the stance and tolerances: ![]() ![]() ![]() Lights were assembled using various parts from S27 set, detail painted and installed: ![]() ![]() ![]() Made a working antenna, just for fun :-) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Installed exhaust after gluing in the chassis. Made new tips out of aluminum tubing for more realism: ![]() ![]() Completed engine bay/wiring/plumbing/weathering: ![]() ![]() and finally couple pix of complete model - more in gallery soon! ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks!
