Re: Sard Supra Drifter

originally i was going to go the same route as him with fitting a 2jz into the sard race chassis ... but now that i have a spare street supra i am really considering just cutting the front portion from the street supra and putting it on the sard chassis.

only difference is that my sard race chassis is under the street body, so my front pins would line up perfectly, in his case, since he is still retaining the sard body, the alignment of the street chassis up front would take some modification to get to close up and mate with the inside of the front bumper b/c the sard pins plug in a lot higher than the street supra, so at the end of the day getting the engine to work with the chassis might be a lot faster and simpler than getting the front clip to work with the body..

if that makes any sense to you

i guess it'll be more clearer to see once i post pics of the progress on my sard (race to street) conversion.

great progress man, like i said i love the hood, although i do agree that a mesh with thinner holes would look just a LITTLE bit more nicer, but the way it is is already more than good enough

Re: Sard Supra Drifter

hey man just wondering, have you fitted the engine yet? i had to grind down the top portion of the tranny (either that or the tranny tunnel, i chose the tranny) in order to get it fitted at the right height in the engine bay. the way it sits now it will sit WAYYY too low.

Yeah Ive been looking at that too. From the top it looks like it sits low but if you look at it from the bottom, especially if you compair it with the way the SARD motor sits in, it almost looks level. Im waiting till I have the full engine and engine bay fully mocked up and then make the changes needed. If I do make the adjustments, I also will be taking it out of the top portion of the tranny.

And as for the rest of you.....

Just another quick update from my work bench. Not too much to show off today, as most of you know very well, scratch building tends to be very time consuming.

The following pictures are of what I have been working on the past few days.....

Finished up scratch building a new turbo manifold for the 2JZ. I wanted to go from the twin turbos to one BIG turbo. Made the manifold out of solder and evergreen. I also had to modify the turbo a little so that the intake for the exhaust turbine was facing the other way for better clearance.

I also scratch built a muffler for the exhaust. Its made out of three different diameters of aluminum tubing. Its a little hard to tell in the pictures, but I beveled the inside edge of the exhaust tip to give it a nicer profile.

And for these last set of pictures are to show off my new wing for the car. I think it complements the car very nicely and I like it a lot better the other ones I was thinking of.

Well that's it for now, as always, thanks for following along. I look forward to any and all comments that you may have.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter

also dont forget that you will need to scratch build a portion of the firewall to fill in the empty space under the windshield. i think thats why it might be looking like its sitting good b/c the firewall is really low right now.

i filed down the top portion of the tranny just about half way down to get it to tuck into the tranny tunnel and sit just about right.

good luck on the build man, cant wait to see more pics and how it turns out

Yes they are 20's. I went with them because the SARD body has larger wheel arches then the stock body. The 20's do a better job of filling them out.

Hello all,
Well as promised, here is the intake plenum and manifold that I promised. I have been working on it for the past couple of days and I just finished it up. Its made from various types of Evergreen, sprue, and plaster. I also stole the throttle body off of the kits stock plenum. Hope you guys like it, Im really pleased with it.

I might add a block in the back for vacuum taps.

Here is a small mock up of the engine. Its finally starting to take shape.

And a quick peek of what it looks like in the engine bay.

Well there you have it, one more thing crossed off the list and on to the next.

Thanks for looking in.

As usual, your comments are always welcomed.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter

Not really feeling the Fast and Furious ricer wing. The Supra has such a nice rear, the wing really kills it. The rest looks good though.

Re: Sard Supra Drifter

Hello to all,

Well I figured that I should give you guys an update since you havent heard from me in a bit. Though this will be a tiny update.

I put together the roll cage.

I also got myself a resin battery for it.

Still trying to decide if I should mount it in the factory location, or if I want to mount it in the cabin. Depending how full the engine bay will be, will determine where it will go.

And finally I NEED HELP DECIDING!!!

I spent A LOT of time fitting the dash out of the street Supra into the SARD (though I may end up redoing some of it cause Im not happy with the results ).
What I am having a hard time deciding on is if I should use the center console or not.

If I use the center console then I will use the stock shifter and fabricate the drift hand brake to mount behind the console with a handle that reaches up over it.

If I dont use the console then I will fabricate a shifter that looks the way one looks without the console and still fabricate a drift hand brake.

Let me know what you all think, maybe that will help in deciding which way to go.

Thanks,
