Let's not get carried away!
Measuring a wheel with a caliper, even a manual one, it does not take more than 10 seconds.Than you add the tire and measure it too.

Let's say 1 minute per set of wheels. Is that so much time lost in order to get a useful database that everyone will be able to use?

I understand that, and that's why I added your criteria to the spread sheet form.

PS: Almost forgot! While you posted 2 long messages you would have had time to measure a few wheel sets!

wheel database spreadsheet

Already exceeded the af forum limits for file size
I think we will need to use smaller images, and a way of doing that might be assembling the tire on the wheel for the side picture, and than maybe add a picture with thread pattern to it's right or left side. This way the cells will be kept lower.

I'll be adding wheels and tires from all my kits during this and next week end.

1 minute isn't 10 seconds, and knowing myself I really doubt I would be able to correctly measure a wheel and a tyre in 10 seconds even if you can.
but that's right if it can help more people time needed has to be taken.

Re: Scale model wheels and tires database

I tweaked the layout a little bit...

database

I will start taking pictures of the tires mounted on the wheels too in the future.

Re: Scale model wheels and tires database

Partial update, I still have about 29 kits or so to add to my list...

database
I am actually re organizing and getting ready to put my kits into cold storage, otherwise I would probably go nuts going this...

Oh and if anyone out there knows the specific model names for the wheels, or sees any incorrect information please let me know..

Excellent work !
The only thing I would appreciate to find is the supposed inch scale of the model (18" for WRC, etc) because I think this infirmation can also be a good clue to choose wheels.
I'll be busy the whole next week free time by another hobby but I'll try to start listing my stuff the week after.

Re: Scale model wheels and tires database

hi guy's i think my work will help you VERY much. i'm working on a complete database of EVERYTHING done in 1/24 - 1/25 scale. not only the tires and wheels but EVERYTHING. cars, trucks, military, sci-fi, from major manufacturer like tamiya, aoshima, revell, MPC, Johan, imai, otaki etc.. but also from the cottage industry. every resin kit, photo-etched made. it's a BIG and hard work to do.

i,m working with MySql for the database.

the job is mostly done for the US manufacturer. also tamiya is also done. thay are not ready to be upload on my server i have to do a couple more test before lunching them. so if you want to participate in my project your help will be VERY appreciate.

Completely off topic, but did you just buy out SAS? I guess the answer is pretty obvious from the user name and avatar. Congrats on the purchase! When can I get the TME Evo 6 transkit

As far as the wheel database goes, I'm not very familiar with SQL databases. Is it difficult to work with?

If anything could you post a list of the kits you've covered thus far so anyone who wants to help will know what you have covered?
