Re: Best Modern Muscle Car?
Thanks. I still like 'em. Comparing the Pontiacs to Mustangs is foolish. I have a customer in Willimasburg, Virginia with a '69 Firebird. His 461 makes BIG power at a reasonable price. One nght he was driving home from work and a new GT500 "wanted a piece of him". He let it go about 4 lengths then "hit it". By the time he shifted to 2nd (TH400), he was beside the Ford. After about 2 seconds of 2nd gear, he was 5 lengths ahead and the Ford shut it down. The man was flabbergasted by the performance of "the old Pontiac". His low 13 second SUPERCHARGED V8 was STOMPED by a 40 year old "antique" with nothing but 93 octane... Dyno and advertising numbers are great for selling you the car. They DO NOT "get the car down the track". That still takes a human guiding it and TRACTION! That's why we "race the races". We don't sit back and point at advertising proaganda.
Now, back to Challenger. I see more of them as time goes by. Still haven't seen one at the track. There WAS a 300 a couple weeks ago, running low 11s. I went over to look. It had a 200 "shot" on it, but was otherwise pretty stock, 6.2 lr. I think... Good runner. I'd like to see a "developed" 392 "Hemi" (the chambers are NOT hemispherical, it's Hemi in NAME ONLY) in one. That engine appears to have some decent potential. I'm sure some of you MOPAR guys can clue me in to where they are actually doing that.
