Just a quick preview to show you that I haven't been lazy during the last few days! Assembled the exhaust with the muffler, the task involved some chrome removal too. Then after the seams had been taken care of, sprayed some Humbrol black enamel over the whole thing. After the enamel had cured, did the CF decals provided by Tamiya. Once again wait until they dried and a Zero gloss coat over them to get rid of a couple of wrinkles. Then some polishing and Vallejo flat clear over the exhaust collector. Next will be some masking and Alclad chrome.

Coming really nice.. but maybe was a better election to paint it balck then apply the chrome and then put the decals... but I'm not sure if is possible to give it a gloss coat to the alclad chrome. Anyway be careful with the masking tape over the decals, but if you have applied a gloss coat over them I think that the masking tape will not break them.

Looking nice.

Instead of masking tape you can also use teflon tape. I will not stick to the decals and it doesn't affect paint. It's great to work with.

Ketje and Roca, I appreciate your warnings! I know the decals are very easy to break when removing masks, but I didn't want to mask Alclad, not especially the chrome. One of these days I have to test how chrome reacts with different kinds of clear coats. But not with this kit!

Slowly getting this done! Now the front forks are almost there, still missing brake disks, throttle and other controls. The front wheel is fixed temporarily to aid in gluing the forks together. It is extremely important to get the forks straight in these bikes, because even slight misalignment will be clearly visible. And yes, the front tire is turning at the moment wrong way!

ive been clear coating alclad with enamel clear and it works perfectly everytime

And a quick follow-up. Managed to install the swinging arm to the frame, now it is gradually starting to look like a motorbike! Note there is a Ferrari wheel under the oil pan.

You and other guys of this forum who made street bikes, have inspired me... and I'm going to buy an R1.. of course 1/12 scale

I have a possibility to buy exact the same kit for a very good price.
How ever, i would like to know if the decals are good quality and easy to work. I had some bad experience with decals for un other kit in the last weeks and i don't want more problems.
I would appreciate if you could inform me about this!

The decals are normal Tamiya decent quality and are set nicely with MicroSol/Set. I had some minor difficulties with the black stripes in the fairing, got a couple of wrinkles in them, but final layer of clear took care of that. Perhaps they are easier to lay down with the hot damp cloth/Q-tip method than the solvents?

Once again small progress. This is one of the smoothest going projects that I have had! The exhaust is now in place, I had a bad feeling that there would be some difficulties with the four pipes glued together before painting and then fitting them to cylinder head, but they just slipped into their holes! The rear brake is now "wired", as well as the coolant hose in front of the engine. Next steps will be the radiator and the front wheel.
