Re: Porsche Carrera GT
Don't know how I missed this thread. The red brakes go well with your chosen body colour. It's a shame the paint is so thick though. But aside from that, the finish is as smooth as a mirror. The carbon fibre is a nice touch. Did you leave the wheels with the chrome from the kit?

Re: Porsche Carrera GT
I'm really surprised at a few of the comments by a few builders here.
I don't think any one should have to question Marks skills if they take the time to see the work he has done. As to critiques, criticisms and comments. Certainly, there are much more tactful ways to CONSTRUCTIVELY critique someones work. I hardly post here since most folks have no tact. Most all builders know the fault of there model. I enjoy building for myself as well and have fun overcoming the challenges faced with some kits. Half that fun is showing the work when done and hoping someone can learn from it or you may learn from it as well. Again, tact is the order of the day. With that said, I also understand that this is a modeling community derived of all walks of life from all over the world. Language barriers are tough for sure. All the same I think tact can be had here too. OF course a thicker skin is something I've learned to get from posting on these sites. We also have to remember that photo's cannot always justify how good or bad a model may be. We all come here to share our work and have the same goals. In the end we all try to help, but I think we just need to be better at tact and being a bit more constructive versus just blatantly pointing out the inaccuracies. Anyway, I like Mark's Porsche, simply because I think it is one of the best Porsche designs. Mark's work at CF is perfect and looks natural. I also like the color, something that should have been a choice direct from Porsche. Interior, wheels, brakes and body color all accent each other. I noticed it's a little thick on the front nose, but that's the only place I can see thickness at all. Of course the photo's could be deceiving as well. I can only hope that my GT comes out as well. Mark, thanks for sharing. Chris |

Re: Porsche Carrera GT
Part of the problem is this forum is worldwide, and there are some top-notch models on this site.So the critics come out in force if its not up to par.(or their opinion anyway).Speaking personally i love when when i get criticism from this forum as i use it to further along my skills. You have to bring your"a-game" when you post on this site. All that being said its a very clean build. The interior is really clean.

Re: Porsche Carrera GT
I am currently working on the same model so it is nice to see what other people have done right out of the box. I have two questions and one small comment on some of the 'discussions' that are happening.
Q1. I tried the Tamiya recommendation on the terracotta, but the color looks like something an animal threw up, so thats out. Does anyone have any ideas to get a better version of that color Q2. Any particular decals you used on the carbon fiber? Modeling should be for fun, that is the whole point. If you want an exact replica, go talk to Porsche, $1M might get you a GT. Otherwise these are supposed to be scale replicas and its supposed to be a hobby. I like the model, it looks nice and I like the color scheme. Scale Detail likes it otherwise he would not have put it on the forum, so the customer is happy as well. A word to the wise for some, there is a old saying. If you cannot say anything nice, don't say anything at all. |

Re: Porsche Carrera GT
The finish on the wheels is just what came from the kit. The metalized finish looked a little “iffy” while they were on the sprue, mostly around the edges of the rims, but being a “simpler build” I went ahead and used them just to finish it quickly. I must admit, once the tires were installed they looked more than adequate for this build.
As far as the recommended Terracotta for the interior, the real ones I’ve seen in person do have an orangy-red tone in the brown to my eye. So the recommendation seems plausible and likely accurate, but then I went the route I did with colors because I didn’t care for the factory offered choices… I guess instead of the abbreviation of SMS I should have been clearer on the ScaleMotorSport brand of carbon fiber decals I used. To be specific, the Hi Def C/F in 1/20 and 1/24 scales on this model. These Hi Def decals are recent additions (within the last few years) to the already established great line of SMS material pattern decals. I prefer them for most C/F applications now… - Mark |
