Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

Yesterday i brushed the aspirations and the grille from the hood in a dark chrome, today i added them for testing fit.

I find that it fits better than in titan-silver. What do you think?

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

Interesting. Is that color a bit close to the rim color though? (not that it matters I guess).

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

It goes back a bit forward.
The engine is ready.
Only the injectionbodys is not yet firmly glued to subsequent problems with the engine still be able to resolve.

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

It seems as the front hood doesn´t really snuggly fit... Do we see just a test fit on the pictures? Any chance of correcting this?

The paint looks really nice. I like that shade of white!

I heard from friends that the engine under certain conditions may not fit.
The reasons are the star, and possibly the injectionbodys.
As the star, it should be the only stick if you push the front rod and the hood is attached.
Not included in the plan as described, previously.

The SLR hood from my friend, bevor he had correctet it...

A test fit of mine we will see, wenn the Clearcoat is dry.

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

Hi,

On Thursday evening, I have applied the first layer of clearcote.
(it must still be freed Cellulite )

Today I have everything attached to the chassis to see how it fits.
In the non-bonded state so far everything seems to fit well.
Only the doors i don't reallylike, but them will probably always openly displayed.

to be contiuned...

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

After the clearcoat had a few days to dry, I started to sand an polish the parts with Micromesh.
The Hood was not painted very good, my gun didn't do that, what i want.

Here I have for those who do not yet know Micromesh a comparative photo ...

1) sanded with 3200
2) untreated after paint
3) sanded and polished with 3200, 6000, 8000 and 12000

Now I've got the body and the rest of the hood to make.

to be continued....

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

So finally, there is again a small step forward.

After a lengthy re-work on the body yesterday, I have the tail lamps.

The front has also been completed.

Here, it would certainly look better if you have a real grid would be initiated instead of the component.

Original component:

The new grid:

Re: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

Nice job so far but I suggest a finer mesh for the grille. K&S has some really fine copper mesh that you can paint, its available at hobby lobby.
