Re: The Spyder and The GST

Worked on the car a little the past few days.

Basically I've got everything apart to allow the trans to come out. When my brother gets off work 2night we are going to drop the tranny.

My ACT clutch should be here today, along with the stainless line kit (master to slave).

Other than that, I pressure washed the engine bay a little bit, until my brothers pressure washer broke. I didnt break it, it just broke while I was using it. Guess I got to buy him another one, lol, I will take it out the car fund.

I also started touching up the bay a little. And I painted the brake calipers black...they were yellow...wow.

Couple other things I noticed. The lateral lower control arms are brand new OEM mitsubishi parts. I'm guessing they had the recall done or whatever. Because I think those were recalled right?

Also, the car has a junk yard tranny in it already....So this will atleast be tranny number 3 that Im putting in. Heres a few pics:

Re: The Spyder and The GST

Thanks dude.

Another update. Will take more pics tomorrow.

Good and bad new.

Got the trans out pretty easily. Pulled the old clutch and got to looking at it. Seems like a fairly new clutch, I'm guessing it was replaced whenever they put in the last tranny. Got to inspecting it and the pressure plate had some very bad heat spots on it. Looked at the flywheel and it was showing the same thing.....but its cracked in four places. So the original plan of using the stock flywheels is out the window. So my brother dropped off the stock flywheel out of my GS at the machine shop to get it turned. I will pick it up 2mrw and check it out. If anything, I will just order up another fidanza fly, and ARP bolts.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

More pics. Tranny is out. Also, I took the stock flywheel that came in my Spyder and got it resurfaced yesterday, though I forgot to take a pic of it.

So here is the PP and disc out of the GST. You can see the heat spots on the PP and check out the springs on the disc.

The trashed flywheel

Hard to make out in the pics, but it shows a few of the cracks.

The tranny amongst other junk crap behind my building.

Random pic of the bumpers while I was back there.

Trans thats going in. Still havent cleaned it:

Getting ready to re-build the cylinders. Ran out of money so I can't buy the kits yet.

OUT!

T25 looks big from back here

Crap I'm putting in

Whatcha think?

Re: The Spyder and The GST

UPDATE!

Been a while since I have updated. Havent had much time to work on the car.

But what I have done since last time:

-Got my stock Spyder flywheel resurfaced and installed
-Installed the ACT clutch
-Installed the tranny
-Rebuilt and installed the master and slave cylinders
-Put the mechanical aspect of the car back together.

So I didnt take any pics this time. But I have a few videos. One of the car in progress and one of it running. Which I will post up in a few.

Funny thing happened. First time I test drove the car, the steering wheel locked up and I ran it into the house. No damage on the car, minimal damage to the house. The reason it locked up is because I dont have a key for the car, but if you jam a screwdriver in the key hole, it doesnt lock. So I took the ignition lock cylinder/ignition switch housing out (which was a booger, lemme tell you) and fixed it so that the wheel wont lock anymore. Though I am not going to tell you what I did to it.

I am going to post up the vids, tell me what you think

Re: The Spyder and The GST

This is a vid of the car in progress:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqwGNZQUHFA

So heres the vid of the car running. I was just screwing around in the driveway, making sure that the clutch and trans is in working order. The car runs kind of choppy, theres a big vac leak I have yet to fix.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

Havent messed with the cars much lately.

Spyder:
I bought the same 3" ebay exhaust as Jason. It fit kind of rough, half the hangers didnt line up. Also, I had the same problem Jason was having; Where the catback bolts to the DP, the pipe was pointed down at the ground at like a 35 degree angle. So I cut the flange of the pipe and rotated it some, so that it would pick the pipe up. Also, I have an ebay 3 inch DP. The exhaust necks down to 2 1/4" where its supposed to bolt to the stock cat. I bought some extra piping and a 3 inch V-band. I am going to cut the flanges off the catback and the DP, and use the V-band to make a complete 3 inch setup. Here are some pics. I will post up more when I get done with it.

Also have some updates for my GST soon.

Extra pipe and V band:

Grapefruit shooter, just held up with coat hanger for the time being.

Where the catback meets the DP. The part that will be cutoff and mated together with Vband.

Where I had to cut the pipe off the flange, rotate it and reweld. Just tacked in place for the meantime.

I will post more pics next week when I finish it up.
