Nice work Alex, great colour, Ive seen a pic of an F40 in Nero Metallic (black) with Tan seats, looked so sexy in black. I love the yellow & the way it matches the lines.

Well, to be completely accurate that piece should be a bit curved at hte very end to match the air duct on the body, but its a tight spot to work on and barely visible. The main problem (seam on the body) is eliminated and this is what I tried to achieve with this mod.

Nice paint work, Alex! Still wondering about the Rosso Corsa in the opening photos... The yellow almost makes me want to abandon the race version for my Pocher F40 and do a yellow LM version... the crispness of the yellow really picks out the bodylines... It's like butter on popcorn, the perfect compliment!

When I scrolled down the first page I was positively surprised to see the yellow color. Suits the car perfectly!!! And you did a fantastic job with the paint, it looks miles deep.

This is going to be a stunning and unusual one. I'll be watching....

Finally an update on this one - got quite a bit done over the last few weeks. First of all, I had cleaned, filled, sanded, primed and painted all the parts. This is an older Tamiya kit, and had tons of molding flaws and imperfection that needed attention. Just look at the parts - most needed filling here and there.




Both front and rear shocks were replaced with working units scratchbuilt from aluminum tubing, styrene rings, and black coated wire. Half-shafts and boots were painted and detailed with BMF.




Brake disks were painted and detailed with photoetched faces from Studio 27 set. The fit was real good. I also drilled the calipers and put in brake lines. Then I decided to detail wheel center lock-nuts a little bit. On the real F40, the nuts are secured to hte axle with a pin, so I drilled a hole in the nut, and fabricated a pin from black coated wire. Finally, brakes and lock-nuts together:







Engine block, intake, lower suspension turbos, and exhaust system were painted and heat stained. Muffler was detailed with bits from S27 set, and various shades of MM metalizers were applied to the entire exhaust system and manifolds.




Chassis was masked and painted, and engine test fitted to the chassis to make sure noting interferes with the installation. Next on the chassis is C/F decals, heat shielding, and suspension install.





Seats, cam covers, and interior elements (dash, and interior bucket) were painted with textured spray paint to simulate fabric surface of the real car. It came out a bit more textured than I wanted, and I had to sand it a bit to make it realistic. Seats were then primed, and sprayed with red paint, then flat-coated. Same was done with cam covers, and interior parts are still awaiting paint.




Front suspension was C/F-ed then assembled using rebuilt shocks and brakes.






Rear suspension was assembled and mated with the engine block. I had to use brake faces from the second P/E set because they were really visible from the inside. Intercoolers were detailed with S27 photoetch, intake detailed and installed on the engine block.







Cam covers were painted, drilled, and wired.
Then I made all the braids, fuel rails, oil cooling lines, couplings, using bunch of various aftermarket and some stock.




Cam covers were then installed on the engine, belts detail painted, intake detail painted and turbos plumbed.






And finally, the engine was completed.

This has come a long way! I love the attention to detail-mostly the pins on the lug nuts.
