Re: wip of friends whip
A tail of tailights
Oh the shame…I had rendered the taillight housing improperly so there was major changes needed. One of the cool things about this path layer stuff is I was able to add some paths and just render on a new layer then rearrange my layer order to fix it. The lenses were also rendered incorrectly as they are orange on top. I also added the thin chrome lip between the lens and the housing. A little gradient on the side set it off so for now I’m cool. I’ll be going back through and hitting the darkest darks and the hottest hots again. I’ll also jump back in and shave a little lens to drop it in the housing a tad, but like I said, at this stage it was cool to be able to make the adjustments and not lose the flavor of the piece. Re: wip of friends whip
Luv this look of toon with no hard line art.
Gives a more realistic look to the depth of a very toony shape. |

Re: wip of friends whip
thanks Blip...you always stay on for the entire ride. SOmeday I'll be fast but I need to get good first. The lack of outlines is why I want to learn this method well. I think it represents a higher level of professionalism (not that I'm there at all...just sayin) in the work I do. I hope to apply it to toons for the time being and eventually figure out how to work it into my semi-real stuff. I'll keep sharin. I decided this board has value so I need folks like you to help me help this youngsters and maybe establish a community that fosters communication which will in turn spur growth. I want Bonz back. I miss Kustom Ace. Where's Alex? What happened to all those cats? We need to fix this. It's a shame the state it's in. -Lemorris |

That's why I watch, it's like school's in and I grab a front row seat. Again, thanks for sharing, it takes time and planning to capture and then share the steps in yours or anyones design process. I hope all on here realize you don't often find sites where WIP threads are almost treated as a tutorial by the artists. That's one of my favorite parts of this board that many will so freely share their progress and answer question during the process. How well will this style work with the printing process? Can you make the seps for t-shirt printing? I'm so old school with having hard outlines surrounding the Toon designs that going without line art on a Tee design is hard to accept. Quote:
I know the basic principles of proportions, perspective and viewing angle apply to CAR-toons and realistic renderings, so I'll try to help where I can. Agree that much of the past experience has disappeared from the forum, (miss seeing CARTOONZ work too), so it's up to those of us still arround to help the community to grow. |

Re: wip of friends whip
with this method seps can be made just fine.
There's a number of PS plugin type of programs that will do it. plus there are several manual methods. Some of the screenprint guys I know can do it very well. If this was for a shirt I would send it to my printer in Vegas. They are capable of sepping an rgb or cmyk file to spot colors for screenprinting. They come out very very nice. The Andy Ham design was done that way. One of my favorite shirts. The printer lines up the screens using registration marks that are output on the psd films. I send it to vegas because they have an automatic press as well and can finely register files like this with no problems. -Lemorris |
