Turning in my man card... I want to make the GTRA quieter... best method?

I assume they just slip over the exhuast tip and clamp on? Would they quiet down the exuast to the driver or simply diffuse the sound from being picked up by track monitors?

I bought the 4" diffuser which fits the 2.5" exhaust. Simply shorten the pipe an inch or so then weld the Supertrapps in place. The diffuser discs can be used to tune the exhaust, less discs less noise or more discs less back pressure but more noise.

Be careful when you put the nuts on the bolts that hold the discs onto the diffusser, they go on with the "marked" side facing out, also use the anti-sieze supplied with the kit.

I went with the Supertrapps as an easier way to reduce noise without the hassle of replacing the mufflers. Works for me.

Hey guys-I'm a newbie on the west coast who just purchased an RA. I have run the car a couple of times at Thunderhill. I would like to run at Laguna Seca which has a noise restriction. I am running the 5.0l Explorer engine which I may change out sometime. For now I don't want to make too many changes until I start to figure things out. I was considering the Supertrapp exhaust tips mentioned in an earlier thread. This would be something I can take on and off as needed without investing into full mufflers (not economical since I could be changing things out later) "Carhauler" can you recommend the correct tips from Summit? Any guess as to what the decibel level might come down to? Any pics?

Well shoot that's no good... car goes under the knife in a few weeks. Going to figure out a quieter muffler setup. Will post up some results.

I had a motorcycle with the Supertrapps. Sounded great but was loud regardless of amount of plates used. Any feedback on the clamp on option? Would it take the exhaust far enough from the plastic to keep it from melting? Decibel levels?

I am confused....I have a GTS....with magnaflow mufflers installed after the headers before the pipe that runs along side the car and we pass all noise restrictions. I would say Barber is the toughest out there. You cant even start an engine at certain times on Sunday (weird). I used the supertrapps one time when we had removed the mufflers and I failed the noise and had to do something fast. I burned the plastic bad and put the magnaflows back on and never looked back.

I am told Laguna Seca requires 92db on weekdays. (Weekends which are typically sanctioned race days are not meatered) Anybody know if the Supertrapp tips or Superflow mufflers will acheive that? Still concerened about the melting side panel comment on the Supertrapp. Any pics. on the one which is running that way?

I am also contemplating changing the exhaust and was considering routing to the passenger side for both a better sound (merging 2 to 1) better scavanging and less heat. I haven't seen the pictures from the guy down under/over that routed his this way. Anyone else?

without some serious bends or or the exhaust hanging WAY down I dont see how you could route it without interfering with the driveshaft.

Plus... his car and my car have 5.slows in them which are WAY smaller than the 4.6 DOHC motor you guys have. We've got more room to play with.

Summit Racing part# SUP-444-2503 for $61.00 each are the Supertrapps I use. You do need to be careful when installing them...make sure the difusser is away from the plastic body panels, if not the exhaust heat will burn them. Measure twice, cut once and you won't have a problem. You can also cut an aluminum trim piece to dress up the area where the exhaust exits the body panel.

The system I built for my car over here in New Zealand takes the LH exhaust up over the top of the clutch bellhousing and merges it with the right down at the bottom of the firewall on the RH side of the car. Very much the same as a Trans Am exhaust system.

Dont have a web site to post pics to so if someone wants to post them to their web and onto this site I will send pics of the completed system for posting.

We had repaired a previous burnthrough in the muffler area of the rocker panel - so when we installed the flowmasters - we installed heat shielding onto the rocker - we also completed the heat shielding on the cockpit surfaces in the muffler area
