As far as your inquiry, your car will be stolen if its meant to be, not because of your location. In fact car thieves, in my own opinion, actually prefer remote locations rather than urban, because less likely of being seen and getting caught.

It makes sense to go some distance for a good vic. I know when that boy stole my new brand new GTPRO performer and then had the nerve to ride it in my face... Anyway, sorry for the flashback but teh point is there are thieves everywhere, some don't even know they are yet. No matter where you move if someone wants your car there gonna get, wether is out of your garage or just pulling you out at the light. So in closing just be careful.

NYC is prolly the last place id leave my car unattended, but like the others said, NY'ers will steal anything they can use or sell, so thats any and everything.
