Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

OMG!!! I missed an Aston thread
Sorry Sasa!

Interesting reading on the (rather big actually) mods in the 1/1 Gulf version that are NOT reflected in the MFH kit :o
But I am more than sure that you will cope with them (even if you are a wheel nazi )

I don't know what the your read on the nose intake is but I still have some leftover casts from the one I made and you are more than welcome to one if you want it - just say the word and I'll post it ASAP

One last question - where's the donkey going to be??

Great information, very interesting, will be following this, it looks like quiet a challenge to getting it looking right. Can't wait to see the start of the build.

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Thanks guys.

Jochen you are right, those are 15 spoke wheels, I found few more pictures with them. Steve (aka Hiroboy) has some pictures from Goodwood, car 009 on the pictures have 15 spoke wheels also. So I have to make 009 car with Tecnomodel wheels, now I am a happy wheel nazi (Hvala )

Stevenski what to say...but....yes , thanks for that as I was looking at that lump of white metal yesterday with proxxon in my hands but I somehow couldn't decide where to cut first

I have a little more work on those F430s and then I will start with interior modifying.

Thank you guys for the interest.

This will be an interesting progress to follow. My friend Alex (P64) modified also the front wheelwell radius, he reduced it a bit with some styrene.

Just discovered some refs http://motorsport-photos.org/gallery...t_id=14&page=1

I don't want to spoil the party here but my intake is better lol just kidding... what i wanted to point out is that the intake is different to what we made for our old Astons. Sadly Steve didn't take a good pic of the intake but you can get the idea here CLICK. It's not as round as the intake on the previous Astons. Last years car had that "reworked" intake too

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Jochen,

Was that picture from race day? I have a picture of the winning DBR9 crossing the finish line at the end of the race and am counting 14 spokes....

Was Aston Martin Racing running two different rims during the race?

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Thanks guys I am glad there is interest. Robi, thank you for link, I will check that radius, didn't saw anything wrong in brief view. Mr.Prini should really make his own web page, I am sure it would be very visited one
Dennis, thanks for heads up, I wanted to remake those vertical parts anyhow, but this picture is really great, it shows everything I need to know. Thanks.
JTNinja, look at the picture from etienne, that car also have 15 spoke wheels, look like they used both sets on both cars.
The interest for this thread makes me start sooner then I thought

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

I hardly post here, I'm more of a silent admirer But here I can finally help out a bit I think.

The 14-spoke OZ rims were the ones originally designed for the DBR9. They've been on the car since it was introduced. For 2008 the new 15-spoke rims have been introduced, both the factory team as the Gigawave team in FIAGT has started to use them. But because of the large amount of 14-spoke wheels available those are still in rotation, so those are also still used on a frequent base. For the Gulf car I would vote for the 15-spoke rims.

Thanks for the info, I will try to do something regarding 14 spoke ones but in the end I will go with 15 spoke ones as they look very good.

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Time to start, I have made idiot mistake in my 430 build so I decidet to put them all in the box for some time and spend some time with Aston.

I started with opening the body parts that should be hollow.

The body is very thick and need a lot of drilling/sanding to go through.

Let's start.

Rear bumper

Naza duct

Front hood

I have thinned areas that need to be drilled through, I will have to do it a bit more since you can see that profile is still very thick.

I left a bit of step on all the openings to give something for PE to hold on to.

I forgot to take the reference pictures with me so I couldn't do much more.

But stat is here.

Thanks for watching.

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Looking good, but it seems youve made a mess all over the place...and on the wheels

Dont know if you need anymore reference pics, but theres at least 2 detail shots of the 05 car here:
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/2...rtin-DBR9.html

Let me know if you need more, I got some good place to find them

Re: Gulf Aston Martin DBR9, LeMans 2008, 1/24 MFH

Sanding continues.

Diffuser was thinned down, still need to shape it a bit.

I welded the cage to

Drilled holes for exhaust and made pipes

Next of are ducts, I sanded them of.

took rotary tool with this handy cutting piece and marked the hole I wanted to make.

Drilled it through and puttied, putted all together, looks good

front end, left side, a bit more sanding to make it fit right.

that's it, for now.
